Car wash turned my rims black?
Hey an earlier poster already stated this... I detailed cars for 7 years for a valet parking company. When I first started there, we used wheel acid to clean rims. That is some nasty stuff that will burn your eyes, make you cough etc. The acid will break down dirt and grease so you don't have to scrub the rims. It will also dissolve paint if left on too long.
I have not seen rims turn out exactly like yours from acid, but I have seen the clearcoat removed and permanent streaks (especially american racing rims for some reason). Within 2 years of working there we stopped using acid at all. After that is was soap only and soft brushes. If the customers rims didn't come clean from soap and scrubbing it's their problem. Hopefully they pay for your rims. My former job paid claims, hence why we stopped using acid products.

the acid they used wiped the paint clean off on some of the other rims. as i was sanding in prep for paint i noticed the black base that was used for the "ghost chrome" paint that infiniti uses for those particular rims as told by Wheel Workz.
yes it's damaged no it's not just dirty and yes it's all fixed now

Glad you got your rims all fixed up. I like them just as much as original if not better.
What color is your car? A dark purple/grey? Is the color factory? I don't think I've ever seen a Max that color, I like it. Also the rims go good with it.

i like it alot it's just going to be difficult to blend the front bumper and drivers .25 panel because the color isn't common and from what i've heard doesn't dry exactly the same color as factory
Personally I wouldn't accept anything less than a new set. Who knows what a 'fix' will look like a month, 6 months, or a year from now. You stated the place has a good reputation and it's in a small town. Word of mouth in a small town can put someone out of business in a heartbeat, trust me, the owner knows this. Use it to your advantage when making demands. Also, if for some reason you end up in court over it, do your research, car-washes are sometimes required by their insurance to have cameras. You will need some sort of hard proof, maybe even from a camera at the gas-station across the corner(if there is one, of course). Good luck with it all

i'm not really one to let other people do work for or on my car anyway so it gave me another project as well
Good to see the wheels are looking better. For future reference you could file an insurance claim under your comprehensive coverage. Comp claims aren't chargable against your record so it won't mess with your premiums and if the insurance company can get reimbursed from the car wash place (which believe me with a couple of scary letters they'll get their money) you get your deductable back. You have to front a little cash in this scenario (your deductible) but it's much less work on your part.
