Too much NOS= cooked motor

The other day I was driving and some guy in this saturn was speeding up so I used NOS(100HP) and lit the tires up passing him. I only used it for about 2-3 seconds and my car began idling around 5-600 rpm and was shaking. It runs fine but idles rough and I have alot of blowbye out of the valve cover. Any clues what might be the problem. I checked the coil and if I unplug the injector on that cylinder (front center) it is about the same.

You may have cooked or broke a valve. The blowbye (good clue) your seeing may be the cyliners compression (or lack of) coming up the valve guide. Do a compression test. If that cylinder is dead, your going to need a valve job!

Make sure you dont have any metallic flakes. The black specs are normal from carbon.

With NOS, you build up a lot more carbon in teh motor.

I had the idling problem too and used a full can of TB cleaner is idle is smooth & normal. Good luck w/ you prob & i hope your motor isnt shot.

i have been quoted for the v2 for the 95 - 98 for $3390
most shops will charge from $600 - $1200

so that leaves a price from $4000 - $4400 it really varies.. I would scout a shop in your area first before you commit to buying an SC.. no sense in buying it if you can't install it

or you can take the brave route like Matt, delio and others and do it yourself

oh and if you buy an SC.. buy a smaller pulley from vortech at the same time.. might as well go higher boost now.. than to have to pay to have it installed later on..

supposedly 60 to the wheels intially... then you start playing with smaller pulley's the numbers go up.. you just won't have that much torque as you will horsepower..

10 mods that won't equal the power.. unless you get.. well .. lets leave that one alone..

Lotsa blow by from the valve cover? Hmmm. Make sure the offending spark plug isn't broken. I hope you didn't toast a piston ring. Wouldn't hurt to do a compression check. If that is inconclusive, you can go ahead and get a leakdown test. As others have said, you could have also bent/burnt a valve

Apparently, it's also the cheapest way to smoke your own Maxima.

I did hear of a SHO guy running a single NOS injector into his intake and he had exactly the same symptoms. Something about the spray not reaching one particular cylinder, leaning it out and burning up the valves. His next two projects were top-end rebuild and wet (injector-per-cylinder) NOS setup , instead of the dry / cheater system.

Again, wetter is better. That is direct port though...way too expensive imo and too hard to remove and mask up...

Stillen quoted me $3400 shipped for a V1 for my 96...I was just curious. If that is Stillen's price, I am sure it can be found cheaper.

If the S/C kit was made in china, we would all be driving fast maximas.

I was using 135 HP wet system ..

If I hear you car sound I will know what it is ?

If you remove the spark coils and you don't feel that the car change then it's something else than the spark plugs and the vaulve .

And I'm hearing about cleaning throttel body I don't think that if you are using nos you will find these dirty things

Maybe this is because you are using dry kit .

My friend has a 300 zx 84 model he used a 53 jet NOS and he bent a vaulve but he missed the shift too, he was using dry kit at the begging but after switching to wet he didn't have this problem

nope.. because i will have SC and NOS someday.. and dry kit is easier to work with.. because with an SC i am not going higher than 50 shot..

Basically Wet System.. Nitrous and Fuel are injected into the engine..

on a Dry kit.. the Nitrous kit uses the factory fuel pump and injectors to supply extra fuel but upping the pressure using the Factory Fuel Pressure Regulator...

Thanks for all your suggestions I had my dad check it today hes a mechanic and he said it seems like the skirt of the piston gave way due to over revving which makes sense because i dont have a window switch to kill the NOS at a certain rpm so I guess not buying that cheap part will now cost me some $. I found a motor today with 106,000 miles for $560. I think I will purchase it and rebuild and port and polish the heads and upgrade the head gasket to copper. BTW I have a wet kit. Also my car over revved since I have no window switch and was spinning the tires like nothing.
