Shaved rear emblems

I removed the side badges on my 96 Mustang and was wondering if I could do the same with the rear "maxima" and symbols on the trunk of my 97SE. Is it as easy as:

use fishing line or floss to cut through the adhesive
and then remove the remaining adhesive with like "Goo-Gone"
and then wash and wax?

Do these emblems have alignment holes in the body like Ford?

Thanks all: e3 - spamman

That's it...

You got it. It won't leave any holes at all, except for the FRONT Nissan badge. Rear has no holes whatsoever.

Exactly. They did not add any holes on the back until the 5th gens.

Who here has done it using that method? Do you guys have any pics? Please list all the materials you used and any helpful links. I want to do that myself, but i don't want any color fade where the emblems used to be or no roughness. Thanks

Lots of people used the method above. And there will be no color fade. Although it's best to do it if your in a warm climate or have a heated garage. Cold emblem glue is nearly impossible to take off.

Rasta: I did this on a 5 year old Mustang and the color was VERY close. If you got up close about 6 inches away you could pick out a faint difference but the car was dark green. I think the lighter car colors would have less variation that can be perceived. I also did not do a very good job of waxing the area and surrounding paint. Other comments? peace: e3

My Emblems

If you find that you can see some ghosting after removal, try some Goo Gone. My emblems were shaved before I got the car and the person didn't wax the back after they were removed. I tried Goo Gone, waxed and all was great!

Alot of people find out that stuff works really nice for them. How long was it shaved before you used it?

Shaved clean

I just shaved them all off the trunk. I used dental floss and 3M adhesive remover to get the glue off. I then used 3M medium-grit rubbing compound to get rid of the shadow and wax to shine. You can't tell they were ever there. Next step was to paint keyhole. I used touch up paint in the little tube vs. spray. Three coats and it dried nice and smooth. I then lightly wet sanded with 1200 grit and buffed. Nice.

If you use a hair dryer and fishing line it is much easier. I used that orange based goo gone and it worked without waxing the car. it actaully got rid of the pain inthe *** wwater marks that were developing in the rear

Ok, I did a search, and this is the exact problem that I am facing. You can see the color difference pretty bad at night, especially the outline of the emblems and letters. When I run my finger over it, I can't feel the lines, but when I run my fingernail I can feel them. I can't tell if they are sticking out, or it is like a scratch, so I am not sure. I've tried washing, waxing, and buffing, but I still can' seem to get the shadow to go away a night when someones headlights are on the back of my trunk. Can tell me anything I can try to get rid of this? Did anyone have a similar problem and solve it? What kind of stuff should I use in the process? Thanks!

Sounds a little ricey to me, but post pics when you are done. They might look pretty good, and I haven't seen any Max's with red emblems on. Good Luck!

I doubt this is how most people would recommend doing it, but I took my front one off with 2 screw drivers on both sides lifting it equally as to not break the things sticking out of them. Hopefully this helps.

No one has ever experienced a problem like this? You can see the color difference pretty bad at night, especially the outline of the emblems and letters. I think it once was an adhesive, but when I took mine off, it just looked like goo. Once the emblem is off, it is very easy to remove this goo with your finger. Hope that helps a little.

use CLOTH to apply the goo be gone, because paper towels scratch the paint, and make sure you wax after, cause that helps a lot with the discoloration

well seems like you have a black max and according to everyone the darker your color the more youll see the difference. but as everyone says, wax that *****h and wait , itll be almost like you couldnt tell the difference.

when i shaved the nissan emblem, there was a slight discoloration. i waxed the area a couple times and let it set. waxed it again the next day and gave my car a wash. the discoloration disappeared after all that.
