If you search you will find a number of people that use EBAY KS's. I had one, it worked fine, I just ended up bypassing it (was sick of seeing the ghost code)

im using the $30 ebay KS, 2 months, no codes id say your golden

I think the cheap price is due to mass production not cheap materials.

I bought one back in Nov 2010, crapped out after 1 month. Returned it to the ebay seller. Bought a different one in the mean time, didn't work straight out of the package. Ebay seller refunded my money. Finally received the replacement from the first seller.

Mine failed after a year. Meh. Not that big of a dead, bought another one.

KS are cheap because
a) Nearly all late 90's to late 00's nissans used EXACTLY THE SAME PART
b) Mass produced because see a)
c) Extremely simple part.

I may be wrong I know how it works just not.... How it works.... Lol

All it is is a magnet and a coil, when you shake the two it'll generate a voltage which the computers determines as a "knock", then timing gets dropped!

It is a Piezo device. Sends out a voltage signal when stressed.

The KS from Ebay sounds reliable according to this tread. Maybe, I'll give it a try as well.

I got one for my 1996 at Autozone about a year and half ago, paid $125. Got one off Ebay for $20 for my 1995 about a year ago. No problems at all with the Ebay one. Checked codes last week, the 1996 is showing knock sensor code (no CEL though). I recommend getting a couple of them from Ebay, they are cheap and if you keep some in stock the, sum of cost of a bunch is still way less than regular store

Whoa whoa whoa relax big boy, i'm not all savy like that, if you were so smart you would have included that, knock sensors are a "ghost code" and that you don't actually need to replace the sensor, it's just detecting something ELSE is wrong ie o2 sensors...

Put that in your search engine and smoke it!

I don't believe that's correct. It's a piezo crystal just like you find in cheap horn tweeters. That's why the resistance is so high.

Sorry, thats not true. My knock sensor DID actually go bad and it def was not a "ghost code"....trust me you will know when they go. You might want to take it easy and not be so aggressive. Esp with 125 post........just sayin....

And btw....my Ebay sensor for 19 shipped did the trick and fixed the problem.

Got my $12 eBay KS in the mail today. In the FSM, Nissan makes a big deal about not using a KS if it's been dropped. When I got it in the mail today wrapped in a single layer of thin bubble wrap in a paper envelope-- I wondered how many times it was dropped, thrown, etc. on it's way to me.

I've has my $17 EBAY KS for 6 months. Code has stayed clear.

KS is basically a piezo microphone. It is tuned to produce the most signal at the frequency of the knock. This can be unique to each engine type. It is why the mounting area must be clean and the torque must be correct. If it hears funny things expect your performance to suffer as it retards ignition timing trying to stop the knock!
