Anyone have door lever/lock issues?

A weird thing happened to my Max (95 SE Auto 225K)...now I'm curious if anyone else has seen the same thing.

For almost the first time ever, I had a reason to open one of the back doors from the inside. Pulled the lever, it didn't release the latch...seemed like child lock was on, but it wasn't.

Took the door apart to find two rods running across the inside, one for the lock button, one for the lever to open it. The one for the lever was rusted so bad in one spot that it broke in half, and the one for the lock was almost there, too. The spot with the rust was almost directly under the metal divider in the window...only thing I can think of is this gathers condensation, drips, and the water got it over 16 years' time.

Turns out this explains why the lock button has never worked in the other back door...took it apart and found the same thing.

I'm fairly certain the front doors were okay...I have a feeling I would have noticed it when I took them apart for the speakers.

This just seems like a very strange thing to happen...anyone else seen it?

I actually found enough metal rod of the same diameter and cut/bent new ones to shape...problem solved. Just really weird that this would have happened to begin with.

I'll keep that in mind...I only replaced the two broken ones for now (have to get to the others), and ordering new rods would probably be a good option--less time consuming than crafting new ones!

Not that I'll have this vehicle long enough for them to rust again, but I wrapped the section of the rods that rusted the last time in duct tape. Maybe then it will run off...or just rust in a slightly different place.

u check the weather stripping around the door and window for cracks ?

Again, there is suppose to be plastic wrap around the interior of the door to protect it from water
