I am aware there is threads for this and youtube videos and tons of other things to look at but I need a direct answer. I took off the Nissan burger on the back of my 99 Max and the adhesive is not coming off at all. I tried WD40 first to get it off and that did nothing. So I researched it and everyone suggested goo-gone but that did not work at all either! So what worked for you guys who have done debadges? Any tips would be greatly appreciated I would like to get that adhesive off asap. Thanks in advance.

 

When I did my debadge, I used a hair dryer or heat gun to soften up the putty/glue. Then I slowly picked at it with my fingers and a gift card. I hope that this information helps with removing the goo. Also, make sure you polish nicely where the lettering was, because more than likely you have oxidation under and around those areas.

 

FYI nothing is just going to desolve the glue. Its gonna take some elbow grease, and possibly a few blisters on your thumbs to get the glue off.

To get the glue off I used some 3M adhesive remover from autozone. Its in a spray can about the size of spray paint. Its like $12 a bottle, but it will come in handy down the road (believe me)

 

I found heat to be the most useful. Get a hairdryer and hit it on some high heat and it softens it up. You can then carefully peal it off. Once the big chucks are off you'll have to use some elbow grease to scrub the rest of the glue off with googone/soap and a soft sponge. Then wash the car, and use some compound and buffer to buff the paint to remove the outline of the logo's. Good luck.

 

Hairdryer, my thumbnail, and a lot of patience did it for me.. Just be careful on pointing the hairdryer (or heat gun) too long on one area or it will mess up the paint..

this is how i did it. it takes a little more care than the other ways but its way faster.
you buy a 99 cent razor scraper from autozone. then you spray wd40 on the glue and let it soak in for a good minute. then you gently scrape the soaked glue off with the scraper(hold the scraper as parallel as possible), careful to not raise the angle and go into your paint. if youre careful enough you can do it without taking any paint off.

if you can get your hands on some plastic razor blades, this job becomes way easier.

 

I used a heat gun and peeled off as much as i could.. then uses dawn dish soap and scrubbed..

 

Thanks so much guys! I'll go out tomorrow and pick up some of the stuff you guys suggested. I'm assuming the heat gun is better than the blow dryer (even the the air in NJ is pretty much a heat gun in and of itself this time of year...). I already have blisters all over my hand from removing some clearcoated plastidip yesterday...

 

also if youre just debadging now youre def still gonna see the outline of all the badges in the paint.

 

goo gone and fishing line and.....time, lots of time.

Compound and a buffer will fix that on any paint.

 

as long as your car has the factory paint use lacquer thinner and maybe warm up the area first with a hair dryer and or heat gun.Dont scrub hard just let the thinner do its job.Klean strip is a good brand to use and i would soak the glue...let it sit for 10 minutes and then go back and keep doing it until the glues gone.use a light compound and a glaze to cover the scratches from scrubbing.

 

THAT, buffed mine for about 30 minutes. No lines what-so-ever
