Mine did the opposite, Youd here it trying to extend and it wouldnt. Got sick of it, and I disconnected the power from it. Its easy if you go that route, you remove your jack and just stick your hand back there and feel for the wire.

The antenna works by a plastic "rope" that is pushed up into the antenna shaft or pulled out by a motor. The "rope" may have broken free from the motor if the antenna doesn't go up or down. You will have to take the antenna out of the car and see exactly what is wrong and if it is able to be repaired (probably not) or has to be replaced.

Mine did this, it stayed up. Get a new power antenna mast from ebay and replace it. You may have to tear yours apart to get the broken rope out. there are write ups here on the org. Its only a $15 dollar fix.

+1 on this. If you are lucky, you can get old nylon pulled out without disassembling the antenna. Otherwise, you have to take the antenna housing apart and clean out the old pieces. Then put it back together and put back in car; turn radio on; wait until motor stops; feed new nylon down into hole; turn radio off; end of nylon should get caught on ratchet and get pulled right in.

the antenna has a tube out the bottom to let water flow, if that plug is blocked it will flood the antenna and short the motor, hit the junkyard, cause a new one is over 300 bucks.

works great with my experience, 100% of the time on all the cars i've put them on...none came back complaining about poor reception. you just have to chassis ground it (i usually solder wire and extend the ground strap so i can drill a hole and ground it to the pillar with an o ring cuz i usually mount it behind the rear view mirror in the middle of the windshield and its not long enough, and the blue wire on the harness for antenna.

Thanks for mentioning that antenna! Mine stays up all the time now because my aftermarket HU has no way to raise/lower it (well, it might, but I haven't gotten it to yet)...this might be a good alternative!

If you HU has an amp remote (blue wire) it shgould be an easy fix. look in the stickies in 4th gen or audio forum.

The second antenna is the HRW element, just use that instead. Only Bose HUs have diversity antenna feature.

My 96 with Clarion tape deck has FM Diversity.

This is the same stereo, with a newer face. Still has FM Diversity.

Also, its not the heater element, they are two separate circuits. Above the red line is antenna, and below is defroster.

If the motor still runs, replace the mast. It's cheap, power antennas are cool, and FM Diversity is nice. I haven't gone aftermarket HU for two reasons, I listen to the radio exclusively, and I want to retain the FM Diversity.

I unplugged my motor until I was able to replace my mast, this was how.
The power plug is in the front of the motor at the bottom.
Remove the trunk liner.
Remove jack for more room.
Reach through hole in body structure with right hand, under motor and unplug pushing tab with index finger (or thumb, but i believe tab is on driver side of plug).
