Belt Noises?

Hey Everyone.

Last night when driving my friend home my belts started to sqeel (sp?) really bad. It would do this at in first and second until about 2500 rpm then stop. It would not do it from 3rd gear up. It was kinda cold out when it was doing this. Probably since it was around 2am it might have been in the 20's or so. I pulled over and shut off the heat and it went fine. Anyone know what migth have caused it? It was making no sounds today when I left for work around 11:30 am or so. I dont know if it was jsut because it was cold or what.

Did you let the car warm up a bit first before driving off? Its common to have this during the winter months. Sometimes when I can't wait and drive off and turn on the heater the belts will start to squeal. After driving a little bit longer and wait until the temp needle gets higher I'll turn on the heater.

Thats what I was thinking actually. Because it did not warm up last night and it did not start doing it today while it was warmer out already.

A good way to check if your belts need replacing is to spray water on them. If they stop to squal for a little bit than start making noises again, you know you need belts. Hope this helps!

ok what makes this whole thread so funny is, I was gonna recommend adding a little soap to the belts that usually stops the squeling even when cold, and no it wont make the belt slip. So whats so funny about this, your username : sudz and I recommend soap.

Yes I have weird humor but really though see if a little soap will help, and I agree make sure the car is warmed up!
