bad ignition switch

okay guys, my car has always had a hard starting issue but recently it has gone away. today while i was driving, my car died and would not start back up. i hit the steering column a couple times and it fired right up for a split second before dying again. what's everybody's opinion

Open it up and take a look. Check the stickies, there is a video showing you how to get at it and even replace it.

it ended up being a piece of shrapnel from my old trans getting stuck to crankshaft position sensor. i did buy a new ignition switch and am replacing it anyways because i have to force my key to get it to crank.
