alarm keeps going off in the rain!
ok aside from taking out the fuse and disabling all the power locks
what can i do to disable the alarm
this is the first time its rained since i've had my car, and driven in the rain. and the alarm keeps going off. so i want to just disable it rather than wonder where the short or whatever is causing this is located
its 3 in the morning here and it keeps waking everyone up and the landlords. not cool
for now ill take the fuse out and lock manually

SOLVED: or rather...temp fix/bypass method.
Under the hood, there is a "button type" of switch. It's located right at the front driver side of the car on top of the upper rad support. It's literally sitting on top of the headlight almost. There are two 10mm bolts holding it on. Unbolt those two, and leave the switch sitting in the engine bay near the headlight (somewhere out of the way). DO NOT disconnect the wires that run to it.
Doing this will "fool" the stock alarm into thinking that the hood is opened...therefore it will not arm the alarm system when you lock the car.

I don't think the factory 4th gen alarm has a window shock sensor or any other kind of shock sensor. My I30 was broken into with the alarm armed and it never once went off when they broke my side window because they didn't unlock the door and open it. They just reached in through the broken window and grabbed what they could. The doors were still locked and alarm was still armed when I found my car broken into.
95-98's are **** poor in preventing theft. didnt take till 99 for immobilizers to come into play.

They do not. I was just saying if the break the glass then pop your hood, trunk or door lock the alarm will go off.
I wonder what would happen if the alarm is armed and someone tries to start the car. I'll have to try that one day.

the car will not crank, and alarm would go off. (if say the window was rolled down and the thief hopped thru the window, bypassing having to unlock the door to make the alarm go off.
Excuse me, but my 4th gen does. NOT aftermarket. If someone tries to break in by force, alarm goes off, I've done it to test it out and it works, therefor its an alarm. Not only does it lock/unlocks the doors but it can also lower down my front windows as I am walking towards the car and open my trunk
