How To: 4th Gen Plug and Play Interior LED Thread
the bulb is located under the "N". The connector is oriented East--West. Twisting the connector counter-clockwise to North--South will let it release. I just used one of the T-10 bulbs I had left over (WLED-x6: 6 LED T10 Wedge Base Bulb), and below is the result...you can see the hotspotting on the N, right above. Mounting it back was a b!tch but I finally got it.

I plan on ordering one of the T-10 base 360* HP LEDs in the Cool White to make it even and avoid the hotspotting.
I also did the following:
Dome light arrived (36SMD w/ festoon adapter):

Key ring LED:

So I ended up removing the whole steering column trim since I was a dum-dum and didn't actually realize the key ring area pops out. Whoops :-)
I also re-installed the instrument cluster LED that came loose last week.. fulll illumination FTW!

From SuperBrightLEDs.com:
74-x: Wedge Base LED bulb (74-W: Cool White). This "cool white" also shows up as a normal white, not much in the way of blue.
I might pick up a blue one and see what that looks like, or for that matter might pick up either a 74-WHP or 74-CWHP3 (the-3 is the 360* one, might do a more complete light, not sure)
Yes that one, I think im gona try it when i get home from classes. i dont have any solder left though, think ill have to end up soldering it in?
your guess is just as good as mine lol
Probably, though maybe not. I don't have the FSM on me right now (work) but if you look at page 250 (iirc) of the EL section where it gives the wiring diagram of the security system it may tell you what the light is...
I could just go out and pull mine off and take a look...might do that at break

Security light...
unclipped and removed from the housing:

Another view (this shows polarity)

The gray rubber piece just slides right off from the black piece...

It IS an LED, a red led. There is NO FILM covering the little window so if you throw any color LED in there it will show that color. I didn't disassemble further, but you can probably get away with bending the leads in.
There IS A RESISTOR ALREADY IN PLACE, if you look closely @ the above picture you see a bit of blue...this is the resistor. It's a 680 Ohm resistor (I measured it). So it should be simple to swap out another component LED. 3mm or 5mm, either one.

You can hit up the 5th gen sections for additional help with doing switches look for the thread that says led poll by Tuner.
I also just did a Full led swap on my 4th gen A/C controls ill post a write up when i get a chance.

im in the process of all this also, need to get an extra set of switches for the doors to experiment on,aside from that i got bulbs for cluster ACC and doors on the way,map and dome are already done, also thinking of running an underhood LED light for visibility purposes at night, nothing special, just a simple 36 or 48 smd panel...just need to figure where i want to power it from, probable a good idea to connect it to the sensor when you open the hood...idk yet
All LEDs on the door switches - DONE
Rear Defrost LED - DONE
(For this one, I left the standard orange light that illuminates when the defrost is on, but I swapped out the backlighting for white LED...the backlighting bulb was out anyhow).
Going to order some LEDs for the manual climate control tonight...going to try and use 5mm 360* LEDs from SBL and solder resistors, using stock housings on 'em

^^^Thinking of re-doing this...with a 1k resistor instead of the 470 ohm I used...way bright. OR I could use a 3mm amber or red led here as well...what do you guys think?

Thinking of changing these out to blue, or maybe to LEDs that are not quite as bright...? Will decide after driving for a few nights.
edit: so now I have to change out the Hazard switch as well LOL compared to the defrost switch I can barely tell it's illuminated :-) I'll probably throw a orange LED with a 1K resistor on that baby.

Would you mind posting up a shopping list of all the led's and locations of placement for the SBL's that you have installed? I would like to do most of the same items myself and would prefer to order them all in one shot.
Sure, but I am in no way a pro at this...besides, I'm likely going to be changing stuff up. If I were you I'd read al the LED threads that have a TON of info on 'em on what to use and how to use them, and pic of 'em in action
^^ Im going to add some links to the OP to other LED threads.
This thread was just supposed to be me showing how i cheaply acquired the LED mod, and to show others how I did it. But the thread has took off since the actual LED thread hasnt been posted in in a while

We don't tap any wires...we just use a T10 adapter to a multi-SMD LED board, like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vehicle-Car-...item337205fae2
plugs right in to the current door courtesy light. The above is an example, about 5 bucks too expensive though
thanks for the info. i meant extending the wires from the courtesy lights to take advantage for the door trigger function so the lights turn on when a door is open.

NEW INFORMATION
Vanity Mirror LED's
I will have to confirm that these fit 95-97 cars (Im pretty sure they do)
Here are the LED's I ordered (31mm Vanity mirror bulbs...xenon white)
http://www.wardenjp.com/stores/festoon.html
You can also get NEO-x bulbs from this site as well ($2.80 for two pieces)
http://www.wardenjp.com/stores/neowedge.html
And here are the pics
LED on the right, OEM on the left......pinky up like a boss

both LED's in

FIN

A mini write up for the vanity mirror bulb change will be up soon

Taking away some of the guesswork for auto climate 98-99
3 of the 4 NEO4 bulbs go in the auto-climate control unit with the positive side up. The 4th one, the LED for the fanspeed up and down switch mounts positive side down.
I have a multimeter, spare 12v external supply and some LEDs to figure this out.
Thank you much Tigersharkdude for this thead

I now have these in my reverse lights

Here is a comparison between some Silverstar reverse bulbs and the Cree Q5 7w bulbs.

quick question , it has been awhile since I had the front door panels off. I already popped out the rear window switches easily and soldered new LED's in them, but both front switches do not want to pop out easily like the rears. does the panel come off first then a screw? of do they pop out form rear to front like the rears.

that worked just fine thanks. as i was soldering the led's into the front switches I happend to notice all the resistors built into the switches where on the negative side of the LED. they all worked fine but when doing the dimmer/security/hazard/defrost LEDs i soldered the resistors onto the pos side of the LED. guess it works both ways?. "LED NEWB" here
