Anyone Know what this Hose is Supposed to be Connected to?

I was ****ing around in my engine bay today and saw this.

This picture is taken from the driver's side of my engine bay. The airbox is to the bottom right of the picture.

I tried followed it, but it dives straight down into the abyss.

this is true... it connects to nothing. its like a breather/vent of some sort... or possibly useless. i think it runs to a couple steel tubes that run in front of the egr system that go to the back of the motor. i didnt really pay attention when replacing my egr system so not positive on that one...

The only stupid questions are unasked ones. I'd say use the search function but it's difficult to search about something you aren't even sure what it is.

BTW, I think that hose lets air in and out of your transmission as it goes through heat cycles. Some may call it a vent hose. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but don't plug it up.

I have also cut mine down. Doesn't seem to have any effect on it's purpose.
