1999 Center Console/Stereo Disassembly

Tried to search for this, but no luck. Trying to find a guide for disassembling the center console/stereo on my 1999 Maxima so I can install my new USA Spec iPod adapter (PA15NIS). Does anyone have a guide on this?

However, I don't just need to remove the radio. To be more specific (which I could have been originally) I need to remove not only the radio but the entire center console, in order to run a cable from the Bose head unit into my center glove box, where the iPod adapter and iPod will sit. I've seen step by step guides on here for later model Maximas, but none for a 99.

The guide you linked to helps a bit, but the main part I'm unsure how to disassemble is the console running from the radio to the glove box. Make sense?

Any help is appreciated.

woops wrong link editing...

I'm trying to find a link on cleaning on the blower motor, I found it way back when I did it... But removing the glovebox is nothing tricky....

Instructions on the glove box removal, it's pretty straight foward though and much easier to attempt it in person, then me actually trying to explain it...

Remove the four little screws holding it in (two on top, two on the side panels I believe) where the shifter panel is, and remove the two screws in the back by the rear seats. I can't remember, but there might be some screws in the bottom of the console armrest that secure it down too. You can then remove it. Piece of cake.

Why put the Ipod adapter in the console where it will take up valuable space? Hide it underneath the radio area, there's tons of room. Then run the Ipod cable anywhere you want to go. I have installed this very unit on my gf's I30. I ran the cable that connects the Ipod out the bottom of the ebrake boot. When not in use, I push the cable down the boot and only the connection is exposed and underneath the e-brake handle where it's out of sight and not taking up valuable space.

This, only 4 screws hold on the whole center console... they're obvious also...

Not a bad idea. The current adapter that I have now (that has stopped working) is installed in the console, which is why I was leaning towards that. I'll check this idea out though and might go that route. Thanks.

Thanks, guys.

Despite the usual smart-alec tone us non-frequent posters and non-Maxima expert members get from the "senior members" of this forum whenever we ask a "noob" question, it is a very useful resource when I do need to log on and use it. No different here. Thanks for all the info. This should get me going.

You don't even NEED to pull the console anyway. I've installed tons of USA Spec ipod adapters. Figure out where you want the cable to go, use a unibit and drill a hole in the center console storage bin, remove the cupholders, run the wire from the bin to cupholder area(maybe you need a wire snake), and then up to the radio area. Plug in, and done.

The shop I worked for charged $75-125 to install ipod adapters depending on the vehicle. EASY money!
