Engline Light Blink

Engine light will come on for a few seconds and then disappear on its own. What does this possibly mean?

Get a scanner and check for codes. You may have pending codes. That's my guess, I can be wrong.

normally when it blinks at you, it means a misfire. but i would think it leaves a code behind...do you feel any hesitation when it blinks?

That's what mine did. It started blinking and was having a heavy misfire. Came up with a Cylinder 5 misfire code, so you might want to plug in a scanner and check it.

^^ he is correct, you have a misfire. Get a scanner to see what codes are pending

car is running smooth, nothing physical that would indicate a major issue pending. A friend here thought it might be a weak relay or some moisture somewhere. Will do the scanner thing. I did give a guy a boost the other day... maybe its all the rain we've been having. Blink is not regular, just periodical. Any ideas on worst case scenario...?

When my oxygen sensor was going bad it would trigger the check engine light and then it would go back off. But if its just blinking then its a misfire like stated above.

Is it actually blinking, or just staying on for five seconds and going out again?

It is not "Blinking", just going on for a few seconds max. Nothing near a regulated blink.

it's not throwing a code!!!!!!!! it's an occaisional one time blink of about 2 seconds, then disappears. I know how to run a manual code and also got a scan this am with no problems to report. The techie said, UNLESS there is a constant engine light, there is no way to determine a code or source the issue. I think it is/was likely a low a voltage scenario precipitated by a boost to a virtually dead battery.
