97 with auto dimming mirror plug, but no power to it ...

So I got a auto dimming mirror off an I30 at the yard today, and popped the map light assembly off my 1997 Maxima SE, and it had the plug with the right color wires and everything, but it doesn't have power to it. I know the mirror is working, tested it with a 9v, and I have read some of the threads I could find, but they are all about the install bypassing the plug. I would like to make it as stock, and clean as possible so I'd like to use the plug. Has anyone figured out what you need to do to get power going to that plug? Is it simply a fuse? Or did they really not wire it up? And if they didn't wire it up, why put it there at all?

Usually if there is a feature left off the car, for instance, fog lamps, the wiring will still be there, but the fuse was never installed. That would be my first guess, but I haven't done this mod yet, so I couldn't tell you.

I've been searching the net trying to find the fuse box diagram for the Infinite, but can't seem to find one. The threads I have found the pictures aren't showing up, anyone have a link to the fuse box layout for the I30's?

Edit I: Found the '02 I35 Manual, hopefully it's the same.

Edit II: It's doesn't have the fuse box layout

Here is the mirror schematic from a 1998 I30. It uses 2 fuses, numbers 13 and 18 and these fuses are also used by other things. Fuse 13 is used by the instrument cluster and fuse 18 is used by the dash lights.

Here is the fuse block layout. It is found in the "foldout" section of the FSM.

Awesome, thanks Dennis. That is a completely different diagram than the '02. I think the '02 has a digital compass built in, so it runs when ever the 12v is on, but this one only appears to turn on when the lights are at least in position one, so it would have never worked because I wasn't using lights on as a condition for function.

Is that FSM online? I really need the layout for the plugs.

I don't know, everything looks like it's where it's supposed to be for it to work by simply plugging it in. The fuses are there to the same things, the wires I could get to like the illumination control have the right color wires, the only thing I can be 100% sure of are the wires going to the back side of the fuse panel, but from what I could see the right color wires are there. Really would need both manuals to track it down.

If you need a FSM, here is the place.

For Maxima, http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/

For Infinity, http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Infiniti/

The schematic I posted is page EL-142 in the 1998 Infinity FSM.

Thanks, hopefully I can print the pages I need from both, and track down the wiring to make sure that they are coming and going to and from the same places.

I think I found the problem, or at least the first problem. On the I30 the Lighting Switch is plug E111, on the Maxima it is plug E108. Got to do some more tracing, and comparing, and will update again once I confirm all problems, and come up with a fix.

EDIT: After taking the column apart it appears that even though they are using different plugs for things, the respective plugs (lights) have the correct color wires leading off them, and back under the dash.

So I think I have found the issue, but can not confirm because I can't remove my dash. I believe the problem is between the M10 plug, and the M1 plug, which is on the back of the fuse block, either the wire is not there, or it goes to a different spot on the block. On the I30 spot 13 is the ignition switch on fuse, on the Maxima it appears to be the meter (gauge cluster?). Regardless, I can't tear down my car that far as I don't have the time, and M10/R1 is way up in there under the dash, or under the pillar. If this is the case, then it will be easier to just keep doing the hard wiring with new wire like people have been, unless you've got the dash out.
