?!?!Bad Throttle Position Sensor!?!?

Ive checked the forum, done the searches, however i cant find anything about this subject. What are the symptoms of a bad TPS. A buddy of mine is having issues with his car. Hesitation, Stalling, Hard starting, and Lower than normal fuel milage. He said he has replaced the MAF, ECTS, CPS, and Crank sensor in the last 7 months. He said that a mechanic told him that it could possibly be his TPS and it would be 200 to fix. Wanted to get some insight from you guys as i know nothing about the TPS and cant seem to find anything. Could this actually be his Problem and how hard is it to do??

Try google "Bad TPS 4th Gen www.maxima.org" and you'll get a few threads on symptoms.

But hopefully your friend's car has thrown a TPS related code (there are several). If not, I'd help your friend (it's easier with two people) test the resistance values of the TPS with a multimeter - could save some time, money, and busting the two "notoriouslycorrodedeasilymangledphilipsscrehe ad" screws to boot.

See TSB (with trouble codes) to test, and if its still good, to adjust the TPS here: http://www.lyberty.com/car/Maxima_A3...NTB99-053b.pdf

If it is bad, here's a discussion on which brand to get: http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ns-please.html

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I agree ... use the FSM and an ohm meter to check it out. It's not a hard process and the FSM will walk you right through it. You don't even have to remove it to check it. It can be temperamental with adjustments so if it somehow got loose or bumped, rested on while leaning in ... something like that, it could through it off. You'll know by looking if it got moved.

If it turns out you need a TPS, I have and extra - PM me.
