Poll: Does your Low Level Fuel Light ever come on for you?
#41
It's bothering me more and more lately that my gas light doesn't work, hence the thread. I'm curious how many of you orgers have a functioning low level gas light.
On both of my Maximas, the light never comes on.
FWIW, I've put 16.5 gallons of gas into my daily driver multiple times and the gas light never came on.
Now go answer the Poll.

On my current daily driver 96 SE, I have seen the fuel light come on once or twice back when I first bought it, but I also ran out of gas once WITHOUT the light coming on, so perhaps it is burned out now. That pissed me right the Fck off...

I believe both my '99 and '96 come on but only when the needle is just at or under the E bar line. I think my '96 has a little gas pump icon whereas my '99 just has a little orange BB-sized light in the Fuel gauge. The most I've ever driven after the light comes on is ~15 miles.

Mine goes on and off anywhere under a quarter tank.. Flashes for a second or two(not only when cornering) then goes off for a while.. only when it's below E does it actually stay on constantly, but I really try to avoid those situations.

when i bought my car with 177k on it, it worked then when it hit 189k it was intermittent now it never comes on
i think my fuel gauge sending unit finally took a dump and for $135 i think ill live without the light

Can't say for my 99 as I put the coilovers on fairly quickly after purchasing the car IIRC.
My light comes on, but it usually means I have less than a gallon left in the tank. It will come on and go off and is very dim and hard to notice. I have run out of gas once trying to make it to a gas station because of this.
There have also been times where I have filled 18.1 and 18.3 gallons without the light ever coming on.

Overall, I'm rather surprised by the results. I thought it would tip in the other direction and show that more people's lights don't work.
Thanks for all the responses thus far.

That's an interesting theory Mike, but I'm not quit sure if I agree or disagree; especially for my 98 daily driver Max. My gas light worked when I first bought the car, but no light for the last couple of years. It was on stock suspension for years; I only put the coilovers on recently.
If your car is pretty level, it should come on when its dead on E and if it doesn't then something else is wrong.

How low are you running down your tank? I tend to drive until there is hardly any fuel left on both my Maxima and I30 and the low fuel light definitely comes on. I never noticed a change with the Maxima when I went from stock suspension to lowering springs to coilovers however with the I30, whether it's coincidence or not the low fuel light does tend to come on a little later now that I'm lowered with front rake, which corroborates with what QT says.

My old 98 was lowered and the light would come on for a couple seconds at the line and that's it.
My new 98 comes on just a little above but only had it for about a week now and I've been filling it up.
First Maxi, I just sold at 220,000 still got over 400 per tank if I drove it right.
I was at 390 yesterday with my new one and I've been having some fun with it

honestly didn't know that we had one until i read on the .org somewhere.. but i've actually run out of gas and it hasn't come on (that was high school days)
in saying that i've had the car since '05 and no gas light

Mine came on and I ran out of gas twice. Once before I could get to the pump and 2nd time ran out just as I pulled in to a station and ended up coasting to a pump.
I was use to how my 240SX is. I can literally bury the gas needle on my S14.

I actually emptied the gas tank to fill it up to complete, but the light never came on...i am debating on trying to use it until the light comes on (or it turns off on me), but i'm too iffy about it...so i dont know...

I've seen my light come on once. I was low on gas, and parked on a slight incline and it came on. I was right down the street from a gas station so idk how much was left in the tank, and as soon as I turned the car on and got on level ground, the light turned off.
