FED or CALI?

i bought a 99 5spd a few days ago..
the seller said the engine was not the original and said it has lower miles,i have the receipt for it.

now,i have a few codes..most of them being o2 sensors,a map code and a swirl valve code.

is it certain that this engine is a cali spec engine?
im trying to get the issues sorted so i can have the car inspected.

could the fed ecu be used with a cali spec engine?
thanks in avance.

As long as he swapped his original intake and exhaust onto the engine it wont matter, there is no cali/fed engine, they are the same beast with different peripherals. Does it have swirl valves in the lower intake, and four O2 sensors in the exhaust?

the car currently has 4 o2 sensors and the swirl valve.
how can i correct this?

would a cali spec ecu make everything right or would i have to swap the y-pipe and intake manifold?

Why do you think you need to change the ECU? The existance of a swirl valve code tells you you have a cali ECU. The existance of swirl valves tells you the engine is Cali. Is the CAR cali? look on the emmisions sticker on the underside of the hood.

this is not the original engine, its been swapped.
this is the way i saw it..a cali engine with a fed ecu.

i live in ny so atm,i cant pass inspection.

im about to go to work now,but i will check the emission sticker and get back to you.
thanks.

Its been said that ALL 99s are Cali. Dunno if this is true. Have you tested the valve and sensors? They could just be bad.

There should be a sticker on the underside of the hood.

Also post up a pic of the engine and engine bay.

My understanding is if you have four O2 sensors, it is a cali spec. Quickest way to tell is if you have 2 O2 sensors right after the precat it's a cali spec. If you have one following the main cat, it's a fed.

I have a cali spec car with an engine with only fed spec...only way youre throwing swirl valve codes is with a cali ecu... so either its looking for them and they dont exit....the solenoid is bad...
