power door locks, locking randomly
power door locks, locking randomly
i know ive seen a couple of threads on this, i tell you what mine does. i open the doors with the remote and when i open the drivers door all the rest of the locks lock again. key could be in ignition or my pocket. the lock behind drivers door started not unlocking fully and even after i manually pull the lock open it relocks itself again. its been doing this randomly for awhile, im thinking actuator, or a short, but where do i start??? thanks
i think the colder air has something to do with it. but it got up to 65 yesterday and it still did it. i think i slammed the door and maybe loosened up the master switches???
my concern is that i go to the mall, or a store, or an unfamiliar spot and the alarm does'nt set because of it. its happened allready.

The master power window switch in the driver's door sends signals to the door locks. Strange as it sounds, there is a microprocessor in the driver's door window switch. What could be happening is that the electrical ground in the driver's door may be bad.
This is just a guess, but with the age of our cars, it is a possibility.

^^This. My car does it too. Its a bad switch that thinks your locking the door, and triggers the electric locks. Eventually I'll see if I can unplug that switch.
Honestly, its just an educated guess. I need to check the FSM and pull my door apart.
As it stands, when I unlock with the key I have to hold the key in the 3:00 position to open the door or it will lock again before the door is opened. Also, while driving the doors will lock and the relays will continue to cycle.

take your door apart and inspect everything to do with the locks and windows. when my window motor found a way to come apart, my doors were doing this bad. once i fixed it, my locks went back to working normally.
adjust the door lock rod linkage inside the door. The inside lock isnt mating all the way.
My car did this until i had to get the outside key cylinders re-keyed. Once i reinstalled and tightened everything up I had to go back in the door to adjust the rod to get the inside lock to seat completely.

Sounds like a bad BCM to me .... for all of you that have this issue. As our 4g's get older, more stuff will start to happen to them. Check out FSM EL-187 (at least in my 98' FSM). Other thing it could be would be the LCU01 (logic control unit) that interfaces with our front door locks. It also interfaces with the windows (all 4) and if you're not having issues there, I'd suspect BCM - much more likely to be the cause of the issue. Try changing it out with one from a scrap yard - maybe cost you $25 - $30 or so ....
On another note - for free .... check your Gnd cable from the battery to the Gnd'ing spot on the front of the block - maybe take if off, clean it with a wire wheel or brush, put it back on and see if the problem continues.

OP: does the lock turn easy or is it really stiff? If it is stiff, Cash might be onto something ...... I'm not always right ...
I experience this same issue except that all the doors lock back except the passenger front door. Have you guys looked at that door also to see if it locks? If not, I would suspect my problems is in the passenger side door. For you guys, its the drivers side door if all doors are locked. I may check the linkage as cashoit stated.
FIXED
Today I decided to fix my door locks.
I had noticed the passenger door lock was not moving when I hit the unlock button on the drivers door. This in turn was triggering the BCM with a "door locked" signal, and thus locked all the doors again.
I pulled the door panel off, and the door latch assembly out. I greased all the plastic clips for the rod controls and adjusted the lock control rod bell crank up/out. I used white lithium grease on the rod clips, and motor oil on the bell crank pivot bushing. The locks work better than they ever had since buying my car three years ago.
