Used Progress Coilovers

Hello .org,

I have a set of used Progress Coilovers with hypercoil springs (i forget the exact specs on the springs), and I was wondering what you guys would think a fair price to ask for them would be.

I still have the box and all the associated paperwork that came with them. The rears leak and tend to rattle a tad on uneven surfaces at low speed. The fronts are in good shape though.

Just wondering what these would be worth.

Thanks for reading.

Half of the retail price minus costs to fix what's broken.

Ebay>advanced serach>closed (sold) listings. this will give you an idea of the current market price. They are only worth what someone wants to pay.

Ok, thanks for your input. I'll do a little searching and see what I come up with. I estimate about $250 is what I'll ask for them.

My understanding is that these were produced by progress for cattman a few years ago. Since it seems cattman is going out of buisness or whatever, a rebuild may be out of the question for the leaky ones. Or, maybe progress will rebuild them.

I seem to remember getting a quote from progress (or maybe cattman) to have them rebuilt. I think he quoted me $75 or so per corner.

Guess I'll make some calls.

Thanks again guys.

I dunno. The bolt pattern appears to be the same.....I would guess that they could, given the studs align with the holes in the trunk and under the hood.

I might break out the old measureing device and see if the studs are the same distance apart as the ones on my 5th gen.

Looking through the 2000.5 and 2001 FSM leads me to think they might. However, due to the rain and laziness I didnt actually measure anything.

They fit fine on my 96 GXE so I would think they MIGHT would be ok on a 5th gen. Seems most of the coilovers available online are listed as "Fits 95-99 A32" or "Fits 00-03 A33" etc.

So that indicates a difference. What that difference is I have no idea.

Anybody know the difference in specs on coilover mounting position, fasteners, etc between 4th gen. the 5 and 5.5gens?

In my experience 4th gen fits 4th an 5th gen fits 5th gen, the spacing between the bolts is bigger on the 5th vs the 4th. I tried some 5th gens on my 4th an they didn't fit. Now I'm not sure about the 00-01 5th gens but I kno the 5.5 gens don't work on a 4th as I have a 96 an my bro in law has the 5.5

Post pics to see what generation they are and whats included.

5th gen has wider spacing for the front knuckle.
5th gen has wider spacing for the rear upper mount.

Minor work to make them interchangeable, but as they sit, not a bolt on.

I would think that the internals would be the same for other progress units, to reduce manufacturing costs. Rebuild kits are probably generic. Do a little legwork and find part numbers for different units, including yours. Then search ebay for a better price.

They are progress adjustable coilovers. I had them on my 96 GXE then decided to swap to a spring/strut setup. Shortly after the spring/strut swap I ditched my 96 avoiding a deer on a seriously curvy road. Smashed my upper oil pan and destroyed my new spring/strut setup.

The only specs I have in the OG paperwork indicates that the valving rates are 15"/sec.

The fronts = 371 rebound/ 97compression

The rears = 211 rebound/124 compression

An initial setting of 30-35 threads from the bottom is recommended. (im guessing this is the pre-load or whatever)

Each rotation of the lower spring collar seems to be equal to about a 1/16".

I will post pics, however the only ones I have are somewhat dated.

*Edit*

I got these from an org member, his old FS thread; http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-interior.html
