Take them both off and inspect them, probably a broken solder point. If you have a little electrical knowledge then it should be a simple fix.

It might be hard to catch with the naked eye. Loose wires. continuity test? If they dont work at all then it is probably a wiring issue. Do you have another speaker to test if the wiring is good? Go at it with the multimeter and you should find your problem. It is about a 15yr old speaker and even a Bose will go bad.

It could be a damaged wire anywhere from the HU to the speaker itself. I would start by testing the speakers though and ensuring they are getting power and grounded properly

I would try testing the speakers first, maybe on a different type of radio (one that doesnt have built in speakers, a surround type speaker setup if you have one). If the speakers are bad then replace the speakers, if they are good then you should try with the multimeter. If the wires are good then you can google "nissan maxima bose wiring diagram" and pull one up. Look at the color scheme for the speakers and wires and you should be able to wire the backs with the front (sure it'll take some splicing and reconnecting, but what the heck..) post with results.

I hate to be a pessimist, but I think you have a head unit problem. Each of the speakers is has its own wiring and stuff. The only common point would be the amplifier portion of the head unit.

Not a good idea. All speakers will play at the same level. You'll have no front/rear fade control.

In the quote above, you state you have quit a bit of electrical knowledge...surely you can test the speakers with a multimeter

Also, read this....most of your thread titles are lame...

your gonna have to provide more info than this. Insure both speakers are getting 12V. the connections coming out of the HU are good. Lastly, test the speakers and you will probably find your problem

Exactly. The only other thing common is some of the 12VDC wiring.

Unless you were playing the HU at full blast when the trouble occured it seems unlikely both speakers would fail at exactly the same time so the actual speakers are probably OK. It sounds like whatever failed is common to both speakers so it's not individual speaker wiring either.

Disconnect the four pin connector at each speaker

With the HU on, use your meter to make sure you have 12VDC between each speakers red wire and black wire.

I don't think you need to worry about soldering at this point.

When did the problem start? Is there something that was being done that may have caused the problem. Were you or someone else working on the stereo?

The Bose sounds great in my 95 GLE but the radio's digital display only works periodically. Anyone else experience this? Thanks

Replace with a new dbl DIN Pioneer AVH-P3300BT touch screen head unit with Blue Tooth, ipod and USB ports, and DVD player. $350 new in box most places. The BOSE HU in my '97 SE started acting up with the CD section making cycling sounds for no apparent reason and the volume control would go loud, then soft, didn't work proportionally with the **** turn. Replacing with the Pioneer

Thanks guys, my speakers seem okay, would you recommend simply hooking up the existing speakers to that Pioneer hu? I was just looking at Boxing Day flyers, there's some sweet deals out there, even ones with navi. Cheers!

Fits our car w/ Bose for sure. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130P330....html?tp=20217

But Crutchfield is an extra $100 which includes special install directions for our car, etc.

You'll need this $40 adapter from Crutchfield to use the existing Bose speakers with amp

You really shouldnt be asking your questions on someone elses thread. Go to the 4th generation section and look there for a thread/sticky right at the top called (or just click the underlined part here) NOOBIES: "I AM NEW HERE BUT HAVE A QUESTION" thread. Read FIRST post BEFORE posting! Thats where you post YOUR questions until you can start your own threads. You'll probably get more answers there too.

I'm Just Mainly Concerned About Blowing Speakers Out Since I Tend To Play My Music At Ignorant Levels

Are You Keeping The Bose Speakers In? I Was Looking Into This Stereo And I Admit That It Looks Pretty Good... Just Wondering If I May As Well Remove The Speakers While I'm At It

My plan is to keep the Bose speakers with individual amps and incorporate the Scosche integration adapter recommended for the Nissan Bose system:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142C4NN...r.html?tp=3486

I have the Pioneer HU and the adapter (XMas present), just need better weather to start the install.
