Box on intake, what is it?

What is that thing for?
In the middle of the picture there is a black box type thing (Just to left of the red battery terminal, looks like Italy), it is attached to the intake system but has nothing routed to it. Now that I have the Stillen intake can it be taken off?
Answer much appreciated.

I believe only 95 Maximas had that box thing you mention. As far as I know, it doesn't do anything. If there are no vacuum hoses or sensors attached to it, you can probably remove it.

Isn't that a part of the intake system?

It's some sort of resonating box. Helps tone down intake noises on with the stock intake system. You don't need it if you have the stillen intake.

Busted

I've been meaning to do it for while now.

Now someone else has noticed I am obliged to do it.
