vq swap

I just bought a motor with 87k. It has been sitting outside for a year. What can I do to make sure it runs great. It was in an automatic. It turns freely by hand, but what should I replace before droppin it in. How hard is it to take rhe converter off since my car is a 5spd. Do u guys think this is a good motor after sittin out for a year? It was covered but I can see it has been sitting

He didn't ask what he should do with the tranny.. Obviously he's using his 5speed, not the one that came with the motor.

If you truly want it to run good and be reliable, I suggest picking up a rebuild kit. If you have the knowledge and time, tear it down have the parts tanked and cleaned and replace everything with the new parts that come in the rebuild kit (time chain components, Pistons, water pump, valve springs, gaskets, seals etc etc). This way you know the engine is almost back to new state and will purr like a kitten.

Or you could just drop it in, put in some fluids and fire it up. Although the way I see it: if you are going to do it, may as well do it right the first time. Rebuild kit will cost about $500 though.

I agree and disagree.

If it wasnt a VQ, i wd say, definitely do as Infinimax suggests.

But since its a VQ, Ehhhh u can rebuild if u wanna but u really shouldnt have to.

EDIT:

I jus realized the engine sat for a year. Yea man, u wd best be served to get the rebulid kit and VC kit along with other gaskets. Really tear into the engine while u have it out of the car.

Water pump, timing chain guides, vc gaskets, pan gaskets, and crank seals. Do a visual inspection while its opened up.
