Issues with headers and Y's??

I could have sworn I read before there were problems with aftermarket headers and or y pipes not directly fitting on 4th gens? I just picked up a 99' 5 speed and I want to do a header back mod... What say you guys? Any issues with particular brands? Or certain year 4th gens having issues?

Thanks in advance and also if you guys can recommend maybe?

Are you asking about the generic shorty style header/y-pipe set ups or the equal lengths?

Don't get anything other than obx 3.5 or catman 4th gen headers. Waste of time with the short headers and unequal length y pipes are raspy.

The obx require work to put in but are half the price of the direct fit catmans.

I'd rather have something that fit right the first time, rather than buying something cheap and having to tweak it to fit right. Screw that. Nothing aggravates me more than something not lining up right and you can't bolt it or put it together.

Just go super cheap with some eBay $140-$180 headers....if they don't fit it'll only cost about $40 more to chop, cut, and reweld....

Wow...You really believe that? I've got a 3rd Gen with Customized Pacesetter Headers and an MES 2.5" catback, I've installed quite a few Headers and Catbacks on several cars which include some guys going with OBX headers, Warpspeed, Nuespeed, Hedman, etc.... So I believe with my experience I can LOVE those Cattman products because I've seen quite a few things and it not just talking B.S.!
I'll be upgrading with so of those eBay headers cause I wanna show that's it possible too fit them perfectly with a little bit of sweat, tears and skills....Sometimes this is what it takes.....So I'll be hunting for those $120-$200 Ebay 4th Gen Headers.....So we really can see what it takes to make those EL CHeapo Brands work!

To be honest I'm a click away from ordering the ebay short headers and Y combo... I had a ws y on my 96 with stock headers and I didn't like the sound, wasn't throaty enough. (even with cattman b pipe and resonator and short ram - stock muffler) So in the back of my mind "aftermarket headers" whether short or cattman equal length (sorry if I said that wrong - I know cattman is the best, but that price is STAGGERING!) If I get the ebay short headers and y combo, will it be in and out wam bam thank you mam direct bolt on no modification? or will have to have the guy cutting and welding crap? sorry to be frank, I'm just nervous and clueless!! LOL

You're not going to get a better sound than what you previously had. It'll probably sound the same.

Also, they're hit or miss on fitment. Some require no modification, some require a **** load.

Just get yourself a Warpspeed Y pipe. Those shorty headers probably wouldn't be much of a gain anyways.

Yea I've been digging and the gain isn't much maybe a horse or three, but I may as well though right? I mean a ws y is $200 new and a shorty/y combo is about $190 lol ... hmmmmmmm, what would you do? be honest, sir!

You could just get a catback. Our cars sound great with just catbacks.

For all the work it takes, shorty headers aren't worth the hassle and time.

Well, even though I want all the gains and status bragging about my set-up (even if it's ebay) I'm gonna pass on the shortys, thanks for the advice chris, I think I'm gonna save up for a full cattman set-up, unless we can get the BRM catback thing going, Ill get another warpspeed...

Warpspeed has been in business for a long time, and makes high quality products for many other vehicles, not just for Maxima's. Many Org members here have them. A friend has one on his 3rd gen and has had it on there for a long time and has racked up many miles with it. Warpspeed will fit the first time, every time. Don't cheap out and buy some Chinese crap made by 12 year old kids that work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week.

The reason why you had no sound is because you were running that OEM muffler! Those Nissan Mufflers really do work! Rasp has nothing to do with header length.....rasp has everything to do with test pipes, small mufflers and small resonators! Go big, or Go home! Use the biggest mufflers, resonators, or even resonated tips

I got a set of OBX headers and a SRS catback installed this weekend...headers were a PIA, getting the EGR tube out of the headers was too, in all it took about 7 hours most of which was spend on the headers and cutting out the tube, getting the o2 sensors out, and heating the pipes to get them to fit correctly. Overall i was pleased with it 'till my trans blew up, if i had to do it again i would def buy a new egr tube, new o2 sensors, and bolts that way everthing could just be cut off if its a problem.

Here's the thing man...

The ebay headers will provide some gains, cuz it smoother flow than OEM, but for the work involved to get them installed, many feel its not worth it.

If u get the ebay headers combo, and decided to jus use the y-pipe without the headers , most likely there will be fitment issues with stock headers. Thats why ebay sells it as a combo.

The WS ypipe will be a direct fit.

Either way, equal length FTW.

So what if we're all wrong and some of those eBay shorty headers bolt directly on without any issues? Are they worth it then? I'll more than likely go that route since there are dozens of eBay shorty headers to choose from....ranging from $130-$200! I'm extremely curious about how they will fit and any issue thrown my way will be handled with ease. Fabbing thing are easy if you know what you're doing

And for all the fitment issues with ebay headers, i dont doubt the quality. That SS headers will look so cool in the engine bay man.

You could always then use the y pipe in the future for a turbow...just reverse it add some mandrel bends and your turbo flange....and there ya go! (obviously a little more work than just that but you get the picture!)

Ebay Headers and Y-pipe do fit, they're on my car. However if you are in for getting all the power you can then get the OBX Headers
