The car sat up for two years and rats decided to eat certain wires.....

 

Well last summer i was taking a left turn kind of fast. I felt a shimmy in the rear and boom. The both rear stabilizer arms on the rear end broke and my rear end ripped out just bouncin down the street. Anynody else have this happen? It was wack..

I have a 95SE, 5-speed, with 92,900 miles on it. I have owned it since day 1, October 1, 1994. It runs like the day that I bought it. The only thing it needs is an oil change in the spring and a battery sometime this year.

So Kevlo, here is the deal. I used to be around alot, (2005-6) but now I only come here to see if a problem I am having is a problem someone else had. Searching is painful. Especially since the "database" I am searching is a mess.

My suggestion is a "known issues" sticky thread. I think this would eliminate most of the need to search, and thereby achieve your goal of reduced repeat threads.

 

92,000 miles on an 18 year old car is 5161 miles per year. She doesn't get out much, does she? You almost qualify for classic insurance.

I am definitely not a car mechanic, nor am I much of a car enthusiast. But I do sure love my Maxima. It's been evwn more reliable than my old Honda. That being said, I dont always have the time to go digging through old threads, reply to them, then being told that I'm being a douche for resurrecting an old thread or just being completely ignored.

I have an older car, I know my problems aren't new, but I also know the answers aren't always in the most intuitive places. I come to a place with experts because I hope there will be someone that may be able to provide some guidance and help me get a little less lost in what I'm trying to figure out. Otherwise it'd be like walking into a mechanics shop and being told to go look it up in a book somewhere.

 

The difference is...you pay a mechanic to work on your car, and this is a free forum.

I have to say that searching is somewhat of an art form. If you don't use the correct words, you don't find your answer. Some of the old timers may speak the org language but searching may still require several tries.

Since you are not a mechanic and fix your cars yourself, just how important is it if you can't find an answer? The mechanic is going to charge you just as much to replace your muffler bearing regardless of whether you found your answer or not. You can argue that the mechanic could over charge you by doing unnecessary work. This could be true if you go to a less than honest/knowledgeable mechanic. But you could also cause yourself to be overcharged by deciding that you have a problem with your muffler bearing and telling the mechanic replace said muffler bearing when in reality the problem is your blinker fluid is low.

In the end, if you can't do it yourself, you are going to have to trust someone else to do it for you. Someone on Maxima.org may give you a very persuasive argument as to what is wrong with your car and be totally wrong. We hope not but we also know that it happens. Read any thread where someone has a problem and is looking for an answer. Look at the responses that that person gets. Besides being told to search, how many different answers are offered?

Pay your money and take your choice. And regardless of what you find, for you the most important thing is that you find a knowledgeable, honest mechanic.

Life is just one of those things that stops for nobody...in 2007, my BMW forum were full of people my age purchasing the new coupe....today, it's filled with mostly much younger people who got the cars used and are modding them....

1997 maxima gle auto

Had ignition switch issues for a few months over the winter and I fixed it a month or so ago. During this time, and after, I've also been getting weird electrical problems. I assumed there was a short in the switch so it would go away when I replaced it. It did for a week and came back. That was a month ago, and now the car wont start at all. No electricity at all. Put the key in and nothing happens. Battery tested good at 12.55 volts. Before this, it would make all sorts of clicking sounds randomly. Flickering lights, clicking relays (I think), radio cuts out when I hit the brakes. Also headlights dim when I hit the brakes. Antenna is still up. It loses power as soon as I turn the key from "run" to "off". Can the actual ignition switch lock short out?

Check all your wiring throughly.

I say a bad ground.

Check the FSM or use common sense.

Follow wires from your battery and make sure everything is clean.

Is your battery newish?

Any dash lights?/CEL?

If your battery, alternator, and grounds look fine, maybe try a grounding kit available here from another org'er.

 

I bought the car in august. Previous owner said battery was newish. It is tested at 12.55 volts and is good. Battery fuse is good. I even swapped my dads battery and battery fuse from his 96 maxima to mine, and still nothing. The car acts as if there is no battery connected whatsoever. ZERO power to anything. No blinking security light. Nothing. All grounds are good and wiring seems fine. I'm frustrated.

 

Could be your BCM.

 

i wouldnt say its new but its new to me. I need a new speedometer. P0500 and P0600 codes. I want to get a speedometer from a junkyard but i dont want to risk anything. I want ebay to be my last resort and a brand new one is too expensive. Im stuck any suggestions would be nice!

What year is your car? P0500 is for the Speed Sensor. Have you checked that out before you get a gauge cluster?

 

My car is a 1997 maxima. I did change the speed sensor about a month ago as soon as I saw the P0500 code but it was followed by the P0600 code too. So i changed the speed sensor, deleted the codes and drove it around all the way up to 80 mph. No code came up until about 2 weeks later. I saw the thread (or the post, i dont know the difference) on here about the code. For now I threw in a speedometer from 97 I30 and sorry for the late response.

 

This sticky is pointless get rid of it so we have more room and less clutter in the front page
