Prestone silicate free

I got to thinking about coolant types and requirements, and decided to research a little bit. What I found online was that Prestone makes a coolant that fits the bill. Its called Prestone Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant 150/5.
It's an ethylene glycol base, and silicate, phosphate, borate, and nitrite free.
I will be changing out the standard green in the max two weekends from now, and changing out the Dex cool in the Chevy Uplander as well with the same.

idk if the color matters to you (I know some people only use certain colors for whatever belief they have), but it's orange.

green coolant is ethylene glycol and orange coolant is propylene glycol so there is a difference and it does matter and if you mix them you could really mess things up

The bottle says "Add to any color" so I am confused by your statement that if you mix them "you could really mess things up."

Evidently this stuff will mix with anything, however I will be flushing with distilled water first.

Whats Orange> Nissan=green, honda=blue, toyota=red, this prestone=yellow
The only orange I know of is dex cool.

Color in and of itself means nothing, it's just dye. Mixng different technologies can cause jelling, or acidity though and should never be done.

Not sure what you mean here. The (96)FSM soes not say anything about using NISSAN coolant. All it says is to use a silicate free ethylene glycol coolant. Supposedly some say to use NISSAN or equivelant. This certainly sounds equivelant.

At any rate I have silicate green stuff in right now and this will be a step in the right direction.

I didnt mean it like your going to mess something up. I just meant try out whatever mix you want just use the right ratio. Even so 70/30 is so close to 50/50 it probably doesnt make a huge difference but with products like water wetter, the more water the better

i didnt see that sorry, but yes i realize they dye it but if you mix ethylene glycol and propylene glycol it kind of resembles jello lol and gums up everything, but if it says its safe to mix with anything than go for it

edit: you already realized the difference looking at one of your responses, so you already know what could happen, guess i was just making sure someone didnt make a mistake

I changed out my coolant yesterday, flushing with six gallons of distilled water, and topping off with a seventh after adding the anti-freeze. Not sure the finished mix ratio but it took the whole gallon of Prestone plus the water.

As a side note, for those sitting on old coolant, afraid to harm the environment. http://www.cdphe.state.co.us/hm/hhw/...antifreeze.htm
I researched this and found that 95% of all treatment facilities are able to do this. dilute and flush down the toilet. Flush a few times to get it on its way and out of the pipes.
