4th Gen vs 7th Gen 1/4 mile

Went to the track last night again and did a couple passes with my buddy's new 7th gen. It's a 2009 completely stock.

7th gen time: 15.62 @ 92.98mph
4th gen time: 16.03 @ 89.55

I also broke 16's that night. My fastest pass was 15.87 @ 89.78mph
Track started to get wet and cold on the last few passes so my times got progressively worse.

Glad to know our 4th gens are only a second off from a 7th gen. Out of curiosity, you had no ccodes on the 4th gen? No KS? Because I think a stock 4th gen should match it....IMO because of weight difference.

I have codes, but for other reasons. Engine was running tip top. I do match him until the 1/8 mile and then he starts to gain on me because the top end is better. After I get the 00VI, he won't be passing me.

goes to show you how heavy the new ones are. They're rated at 100hp more than 4th gens.

OBX-R V2 headers/ypipe, 240sx test pipe and custom 3" catback. Also has an apexi power intake. Other then that, it's mostly stock.

Don't forget to check the metal cup on the end of the power rod. They're notorious for breaking loose, not allowing the power rod to open up the secondary intake runners.

i know im going to probably get ripped for this, and i am not trying to be an a hole but me and a buddy or mine did a couple of rips on the highway out here by me on a late night, and he has a 7th gen and i pulled on him every time... i mean it was from a 40 roll if that makes any difference.. but my mods are in my sig.

If it was at 40 mph rolls he should have pulled on you after about 75mph or so. 4th gens have crap for top end with usmd manifold. Something could be wrong with his 7th Gen reducing power or maybe he was letting off early. Or maybe its because my 4th Gen has over 260,000 miles? There is a lot of different factors. This 7th Gen was completely stock and the driver has 7years of seat time at this track. I ran 16sec flat that run and that's a good time for a mostly stock n/a car at this elevation and racing conditions. Honestly I couldn't tell you.

In order to take advantage of the delete, your rev limit should be extended to 7,200 to 7,500. Since the benefit of the 00VI is above 5,000 rpm, you'll have a very short and limited power band to work with when running the factory rev limit.

About 4500ft, 60% humidity. It's not the best track for N/A cars.

Are you auto? If so I highly recommend a shift kit. I ran last year. My mods were; headers, y pipe, 2.5" catback, shift kit, cold air intake, and a 225 tire. Full interior and a 12" sub box 1/2 tank of gas. My best time was 15.2
Just some food for thought.
I can't wait to go again this year with the VI

Not sure what headers and ypipe you are using.

Mine are equal length v2 3.5 headers. I also have no cat and a 3" catback. 5 speeds are also much faster off the line then auto. Tires could also be a huge factor. My fastest sea level correction is 14.67 at 98mph. I've never ran at sea level but I did do a 15.86 at 4500ft. So if you are close to sea level running a 15.2 then I could easily see my car running no less than 14.8.

ya mang. the shorty headers suck for top end. awesome for midrange torque as you may have noticed... saving for the v2 next year

so you're the guy i've been messaging for a drive by vid on youtube!! lol. nice to see you here... can't wait to see it with an 00vi, it would be able to keep ahead of that 7th gen. lets see who gets to 00vi+v2 headers first

Yeah, it would appear our mods are not as close as you think.
Get yourself some equal length longtube headers and delete that cat and you should feel some more power.

Yeah, I'll be making that flyby video this Tuesday. After I'm done moving I'm finally putting the 00VI on. I'm tired of looking at all the parts on my kitchen table.

I was debating on making a custom MAF similar to what you did in 3" piping and also using the pathfinder TB. Next year I'm going to suck it up and buy the Greddy Emanage Ultimate. I want something solid for tuning that can do everything I want and that seems to be the best way to go. I also have some free dyno passes to tune on.

I would definitely do it once you have the emanage installed, especially since you have some free dyno passes.

I'll start looking into it. I really need to re-position my battery better and possibly build a support for the tray. I need more room to finish my intake.

I actually have a few friends that work at one of the tuning shops. They have told me to come in on a slow day when their boss isn't around and they'd be willing to tinker with my set up free of charge.
