i had my car in the air and noticed that the heat sheild for the gas tank is loose as well as the floor sheild in front and both have rusted bolts probably seized into the sheilds. i called the dealer and the parts only like 87.50 tax and all plus 2 bolts for 1.00 each to replace rusted ones. question is, is it safe to remove the heat sheilds for the tank and the floor?? i put wire and 2 bolts up there to hold it for now and its fine. here's the link to what i'm talking about...http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1897_1917.html part # 74754+a is attached to the tank sheild and holds it in place.
Very rarely is a shield put on a car for "no reason"
Plenty of thermal and impact reasons for them.

That shield you noted is not by the tank but near it. Only thing up there is your parking brake lines. If you feel that the heat will not tamper with those lines, remove them.
i'll probably keep them for now cause they're up there for a reason as kevlo said and i cant see taking the gas tank one off. hell, even my mechanic said leave that one and to do that i have to leave the floor one in. damn u nissan for all your crazy designs!!! he also said he's taken them out of alot of cars with no problems.

LOL. It took someone to tell you that they're there for a reason? Did you think Nissan put them there for ***** and giggles? Originally Posted by max ride 41

FWIW, I have them off on my daily driver as well, and Ptatohed has them off on both his Maximas as well. That makes it 4 votes against 1.

errr I would keep mine if it were me. If the zip tie solution works then keep it. I think you would be surprised if a poll was taken of how many fender well shields and bumper shields were zip tied in place. I know a few of mine are.
