air temp sensor

I need help... When I removed the factory air box on my 97 to add a cone filter, I relocated the air temp sensor after the MAF in the box. Now my check engine light won't go off. I've tried reseting it but it comes back on. Any suggestions are appreciated.

most likely its cause you discontected your MAF not the sensor. Try doing a diagnostic check on the ECU. Its probably something else thats wrong!

I never moved or disconected my MAF. Simply removed factory plumbing and added the cone where the stock air box was. the only thing I touched was the air temp sensor by relocating it. Should the cone or shifting the temp sensor through the light? Or is there another problem at the same time?

My air temp sensor is taped to the shock tower right underneath the intake. I've never had a problem (and neither has anybody else here), so you must have another problem. You better get the diagnostic code from the Check Engine light.

I had the same problem when I installed my K&N cone filter. I heard that this might have happened, and I guess I wasn't worried about it. About 2 weeks later the engine light just went away by itself. I think I've read other posts with the same experience.

Make sure you didn't leave any vac or air hoses disconected. It's prob not your air temp sens. It doesn't matter where you mount it as long as it can read intake air temp. There is a large hose that cames off the throttle body and goes to the air box. Make sure you didn't leave it off. That will set the light off right away!

It is not a major input. If it is not in the path of the intake air but it is plugged in and hanging out in the engine bay it might slightly effect you fuel trim depending on the temp difference between the two but it wont do any damage. If you have a hole for it you should install it.

I thought CEL do not go off until reset... So even if you correct the problem, don't you have to reset the ECU?

I didn't think so either but someone told me just to wait, and it worked. Actually I spoke too soon. I was driving today and the freakin engine check light came on! Great, it reminded me of the post I made earlier today. I have no idea why it came on but I'm not gonna ignore it this time. So how do I check what it is? I'm too lazy to search.

Are you sure it is the air temp sensor? Did you pull the code, or just assume it was the air temp sensor?

It was the air temp sensor but when I pulled the code it was my EGR valve tripping the light.

actually for the 4th gen, the intake temp sensor is not used to control fuel trim or anything else. its simply used for diagnostic purposes only. Go read someone's factory service manual and itll say in there.
