theyre a lot easier with an extra person to lay under the car, and benchpress it while you put the upper bolt in to hold it in place.

Change it about 6 or 7 times and you'll get the hang of it and be done start to finish in about 2 hours

Man, that alternator is not difficult at all. Even replaced one during the winter outside it was that easy. Just a ratchet and a 14mm is all you need. Hardest part is guiding the alternator in and out with the compressor there.

With help it can be done in 30min or less. It's not as easy as say... a Subaru WRX... but meh.. It's not the most complicated thing to do. Try doing a water pump sometime..

I changed mine myself. It was not that bad, but some people do not want to deal with it and that's fine.

No need to remove the radiator. I did an alternator in less than a hour with an extra set of hands. It's just an annoying amount of weight at an awkward position. I have a refurb Advance auto alternator in my car. Running strong !

theres no need to drain it and remove the hoses. you only need to remove the fan shroud.

He attacked it from underneath the car as opposed to through the engine bay. Better? Lol thought it was pretty explanatory for those who've changed their alternators...

I took it out from up top, I couldn't imagine taking it from the bottom. The reason you need to move the AC compressor is because otherwise its impossible to get to the the main bolt... at least it was impossible for me, I have big hands. I did this just two weeks ago and when I was trying to bolt the new one back in I stripped the threads on the J nut. I went to the Nissan dealership and they wanted $12.50 for that nut, and I couldn't find it anywhere else. So I fabricated my own for 75 cents and it worked just fine ... Lesson of the story: don't work on your car angry or you'll start breaking things.

well after i took the last bolt out, i just slipped it out through the bottom while i moved the compressor out of the way. i also put the new one in via the bottom. i put it in its general area, and then moved the compressor back underneath it, and let the alternator sit on top of it.

I replaced my alt in 05 or 06. It was pretty straight forward. I dont have the splash shields under the car, so that saved time. I remember picking up the front end by the wheel well and kicking the alt under the car. I was pretty low at the time and the lip did not help. That was probably the hardest part. lol

On a separate note, have you experience any negative effects of not having splash guard under the car. I'm sure water is getting into areas it shouldn't. I'm contemplating removing mine since Its pretty beat up.

Yeah I've had mine off for a few months now and I haven't had any trouble so far. What I'm worried about most is something get caught on my accessory belt and ripping that off... what would be really nice is if there were aftermarket splash shields made off aluminum with decent fittings to the otehr pieces underneath the car. The only reason I leave mine off is because whenever I go to take them back off after putting them back on I always seem to tear through another plastic piece.

I've had no issues, they have been off since 04. I do have the passengers side shield covering the belts and old filter though.
