Sputtering Issue!
My 97 Nissan Maxima has been running fine, the other day I was on my way home from work when it started sputtering like it wanted to stall but it never did. Also, the check engine light came on and was flashing, it would go solid and and after a minute or so start flashing again. I drove to Auto Zone and they plugged it in and said I needed to replace my knock sensor. I had my knock sensor replaced and they said it is still sputtering and it could be my cylinder. What could the problem be?

The knock sensor code is simply thrown to show you something else is wrong so of course they thought that was the problem lol. I have a feeling one of your coils has gone bad. Most likely its on the bank closest to the firewall(bank 1). Very rarely will a KS code be thrown and that be the sole cause of it. It usually always means something else is wrong and the KS code tells the educated 4th gen owner that something else is amiss. How are your knuckles after the KS replacement lol?

FLASHING Check engine light means misfire. A Knock Sensor will NEVER cause a misfire. You likley have a bad ignition coil (as mentioned above). When you get a new one, go with OEM (used from classifieds here), do NOT go with aftermarket parts store brands, they can cause other problems.
