Ignition coil for 99 max

Hi guys,

Just found out that I need to replace the 6 pep boy coils I recently bought with the Nissan one. I really don't want to spend ANOTHER $500 unless I really have too.

If I decide to go junk yard, do they have to be from a 99 maxima or from any 4th gen?

Anyone know a good site for parts?

Finally, does OEM mean the same as "Nissan" part?

Check an on-line parts store and see if the part number for the coils is the same between 4th gen model years. I assume you are aware that the front bank is different from the rear bank of cylinders.

And yes, generally OEM means "original equipment manufacturer"...but the part could be manufacturered by a supplier, such as NGK, Denso, Hitachi, etc.

I'll be looking for the Hanshin parts if i hit up the junk yard or online. And I am aware of the difference between the 2 rows.

Stay away from the hanshin coils, look for the ones with the Mitsubishi emblem. Also get earlier coils as the 99 Max is notorious for crap coils.

What happened to your original coils? They couldn't have all been bad.

As crappy as everyone says the 99 coils are, none of my 6 original coils have been replace from failure. (my car has been in my since it was brand new). The rear 3 were replace at 130k when I did the 00vi and one of the 00 coiled failed. At this point any bad 99 coiled would have weeded out after 13 year any 13 to 18 year old coil is a crap shot anyways.

More then likely only one-two coils were actually bad and Pep-boys guy talked him into buying all 6 when it wasn't really necessary.

Any coil pack from 95-99 will fit and also front valve cover coil packs from 00-01 will also fit your car. I'd avoid 99, as others have said they tend to have issues. Maybe not for every 99 but most have problems.

I have a 99 myself and have had so much trouble with this in the past that I can basically tell which bank the coil has gone back just how she drives when one goes out.

I bought all 6 coils thinking maybe the resistance was just off on the coils or something. Can't really remember what I was thinking at the time. I replaced 1 coil when it was throwing out a cylinder code but but my service engine light never went off.

Most aftermarket coils throw a check engine why is everyone recommend oem coils. So you probably had just one bad one.

If I decide to buy new ones, I keep getting conflicting information on the part maker. Is it Hanshin or Mitsubishi?

Both make them. Mitsubishi are suppose to be better quality.

As stated 99 year coils are trash... buy either dek (2000-01) front coils with gray dot or 95-98 coils... and rears 95-98 only... hanshins arent bad if new... but the mitsubishi used will probably outlast hanshins...

I'm just curious...I still have my original coils with 165,000 miles...do you get a code when they go bad? How long should they last?

(sorry if I hijacked this thread)
