Sounds like you aren't getting enough fuel?

Do you know what the fuel pressure is set at? I get cold starts but it always fires up with no hesitation I just have to give it some gas at first.

Yeah do that. Also make sure your spark plugs are ok. I am assuming they are if it does fire up..

I can't really think of anything else. CEL? Starter possibly? Good luck.

That is true. I had a short on that wire leading to the ckps when I tried to start my swap for the first time it would not start. It may be that is it going bad. That would definitely give you some hesitation...

The VQ35 pulley is smooth all the way around - the VQ30 pulley has the tabs.

yeah well if this has vq30 timing components swapped on to the 3.5 block then it should have the vq30 crank pulley

Not really - they're interchangeable - except that the 3.5 pulley has no timing tabs, and the 3.0 has four - two very close together. I've done a couple of 3.5 conversions to run in a 4th gen, and I still have both types of pulleys on the shelf. The correct pulley is required for the 3.0 ECU to work and start normally.

Does your engine have a cam sensor mounted in the front timing cover? If so, the 3.5 had the 3.0 timing conversion done - but you have the wrong pulley installed.

You gotta crank it a lot, right? It will start - eventually, but it's not pretty. Look at the comments about about the ckps sensor - they agree that that sensor can be responsible for starting issues. I've seen it happen on Aackshun's Red Devil - when that sensor is dangling down, the engine is not happy.

Just change the pulley - only way to fix the problem. You might ask yourself why the engine was assembled that way. Hope you got a good price on the car. 3.0 pulleys are cheap - but a real pain to change out with the engine in the car. Good luck....

For future reference.

You CAN start your car w/o a Crankshaft Position Sensor (Reference).

But you are SOL with a Crankshaft Position Sensor (Position) properly functioning.
