Which muffler to get

Which muffler to get
I have a 97 Maxima SE.
Should I get a Walker quiet flow for $118 or the OEM Nissan muffler for $286? I've heard the walker is more restrictive..if a walker owner could comment on this that would be great. If you can find a better price than 286, let me know.
The walker is clearly much less, but is the extra cost worth it for OEM?
The car currently has a stock muffler on it, and I like it.
What do you guys suggest?

are you trying to go ninja style? or are you looking for somewhat performance. If you want less restrictive...straight pipe with longer resinator..just sayin.
I wouldn't by a muffler for 286 when you can basically get a whole cat back system that is 2.5 inch for that and stainless steel.

I JUST got a new muffler installed, and love it. If you want quiet, this is pretty much the quietest out there next to stock. 60 bucks on Amazon.
Dynomax 17748 muffler, gets welded on (you need a tip) since it's 2.5" piping instead of stock, but here's some sound clips of mine for comparo:
First vid is completely STOCK exhaust. Second vid is with new muffler and tip.
Sorry for the quality (or lack thereof) of the videos, I think that I could have gotten better had I taken them out in the open air, not with the car halfway in the garage...I think that may have messed with the sound a little. Regardless, you should be able to hear the difference between the two setups.
I tried to do similar tests...idle, rev to 2500 and hold, idle, rev up to 4k and back to idle a few times...
If you like the stock muffler but want something with just a hint of performance, I HIGHLY recommend this one.

Hey Amerikaner that looks and sounds nice! Where can I get the tip I need? Also it looks like you have a chrome exhaust tip as well, where did you get that? Is dynomax a good brand, just wondering why it's so much cheaper?
Also it looks like it wasn't designed for nissan? (checked dynomax and they don't sell Nissan parts) but it looks like install went fine for you.

The tip I just got at the exhaust shop, it's just a regular old magnaflow oval tip...many designs to choose from.
regarding the muffler, yeah it's not direct bolt-on, since this part number has 2.5" inlet andoutlet diameters, it needs to be welded to the stock piping (2" iirc). It's also 20" long, whereas stock is 16 I think. I was recommended to get this one by another guy here on the org who has it on his...several folks have it on their 4th gens and it sounds great.
Dynomax is a good brand, yes. They don't have the brand recognition as magnaflow or flowmaster, but they don't seem to have too many complaints

So I just called two muffler shops for quotes on muffler and resonator install. Shop 1 near my place quoted $380 out the door. Shop two in a lower income area quoted 160.
That's quite a price difference I thought...it appears to be because the second places uses "universal parts" which I'm guessing aren't all that great. Have you guys used these 'universal parts' they're talking about? They specifically mentioned that 'walker is expensive' and that these are good'

the place I went charged 160 for the install of the muffler, install of tip, and purchase of tip. I spent 60 for the muffler on amason. Total=220.
call other muffler / welding places. Stay away from the big name brand National joints...find a local mom-and-pop type place and stop in, tell 'em what you're thinking, and have 'em quote you price of INSTALLATION only...then buy the parts elsewhere. installation is where they make their money, not necessarily the parts.
