have searched high and low on this sight and on internet but can not find an answer.....will the 95 cali ecu work in a 96 fed maxima without check engine light? primarily asking the people who have actually done it, any help would greatly be appreciated!

probably not..HOWEVER cali spec fed spec is irrelevant unless it's a 99, so it could.

 

Why would you want to is the question? ECU's arent exactly hard to find for 4th gen maximas

 

thank you for the answers thus far, shocknawe my question comes from the fact that the 95 max is the only year 4th gen that doesnt have the evap valve on the manifold or the evap canister in the back. actually the idle air assembly looks completely different as well...was wondering if this ecu would bypass the evap system completely

 

I have the same 95 as you do without the evap canister at the back but under the master cylinder. I believe you would have to get the exact one. Cali wouldn't work because canister is at the back and has additional sensors. Ours don't have the evap vent valve and other sensors..

 

The 95 Cali spec is the same as a 96. All the 96 models have the same emissions. Yes 95 did have a Fed spec setup with less emissions and electronics than the others.

 

i have 96 cali spec ecu in my 99 fed car and CEL is always on for the california swirl control valve that fed cars dont have, and a cali spec has 4 o2 sensors and fed has 3.

 

Only 99 Cali spec cars have swirl valves, along with the retarded y pipe/front manifold, extra O2 sensor, electric EGR, and stupid immobilizer. 99 Cali specs are teh ghey!

 

i wish i didn't get stuck with a 99 cali spec...something I've regretted for months.

As stated, youre gonna have a CEL with the cali ecu no matter what year. Itll be huntin for extra o2 sensors.

 

There is no extra O2 on pre 99's.

Again, the 95 Cali spec is identical to any 96. This thread is about putting a 95 Cali ECU in a 96.

True which means it will work. The only thing that would bug me is the harness connectors that aren't required for the ECU, will the ECU throw a random code? Is the pinout the same?
