99 Maxima - 82K - Recommended Parts to Replace

Hi All,

New to the forum and hope some of you can help me with a used maxima I recently purchased. It was in AS-IS condition, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend some parts I should replace, given the year and mileage of the car.

*Please note: I actually brought this car for my sister/father (they will be sharing) ..so the parts I need, just needs to be good and safe...nothing expensive or sporty.

These are the parts I am thinking about, please contribute to it, if you can.

Front Struts:
Monroe Left Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly #171683
Monroe Right Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly #171682
-Has anyone installed these before?
-Are these the Sensa-Trac?
-Since this is the complete strut assembly, are there any other parts that needs to be replace...to save on the labor cost?

Rear Springs:
Monroe L/R Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly #171293

Brakes:
OEM Nissan Brake Pads? Can someone please provide the part number for the front and the rear OEM Nissan Brakes Pads for 99 Maxima?

Rotors:
I know most people like brembo blanks, but is there an alternative? Or for the price, are these the best?

Tie Rod:
I see so many Tie Rod parts, and it's been getting very overwhelming. Which ones are the ones that should be replaced? MOOG Part #ES3438 2 Outter Tie Rod End
MOOG Part #EV352 2 Inner Tie Rod Ends
-Am I missing anything for the Tie Rod Ends?

Sway Bar Link:
Front L/R MOOG Sway Bar Link Part # K9824

Sawy Bar Bushings:
Moog ..but not sure of the correct part number.

Control Arm:
What is this for? Should they be replaced?

Brake - Dust Shield:
Do I need these for the fronts or rear? Can someone please provide a part number?

E-brake:
Is E brake the same as the parking brake? I have this really LOUD grinding noise when putting my car in reverse, and some have said its due to the parking brake line. Can someone please tell me the part number or brand for a good parking brake line and if there are other parts needed to be replaced?

Spark Plugs/Spark Line:
Other than NGK Platinums, are there any alternative that DOES NOT need to adjust the GAP and is a direct fit? Should I get new wires also?

Thank you all for your help.
-Leo

Just get everything from a part store if u can find it cheaper on ebay then do it...the struts ur mention are good i have those all around mine now and are great..control arm dont replace it unless ur ball joints are bad cause its easier to replace the whole thing so ur not spending hours on getting the ball joint out...parking brake just get from a junk yard same thing as park brake...if ur getting brembo get slotted and drilled if possible...i think there better then just sloted...and ur on the right track for replacing stuff....with the right part number..ill read again later and comment on a few things just my time is limited at times lol

Maxima2fst4u,

Thanks for your reply. I look forward to the part numbers. I think the slotted and drilled rotors will be too expensive for a car that wont aggressively driven. Do you know what the part is called with the control arm and ball joint together?

Thanks
Leo

At 82k miles, why are you replacing all of these items? Have you actually inspected them?
Tie rods, control arms, dust shields? Do you have any maintenance records?

pull the egr tube off and clean it if you do any other work that makes access to it easier.
fuel filter

In my opinion first is engine oil and filter, inspect engine oil for metal shavings or milkiness, spark plugs as you mentioned, air filter, fuel filter, engine coolant, inspect hoses and vacuum lines....and then i think you start tackling the rest.

Hey njmaxseltd,

I actually do not have any records of the car, which is why I'm a bit worried. The car has slight vibration to the steering wheel when moving... the brakes needs to be changed, and when going to speeds over 50mpg, the car shakes a little bit.

I would like to change these parts if possible..as that will give me a piece of mind.

Thanks,
-Leo

*I actually really want to do the "EGR tube cleaning" and IACV but it seems a bit complicated... http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...l?ref=esp-link

Does anyone know a shop in NYC that will do a EGR Tube cleaning... and do a good job at it?

Thanks,
-Leo

OP
Take a look at this for rotors/pads:

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...gs+Best+Seller

Complete Slotted/drilled rotor and ceramic pad kit. I put these on my 95. Works great, less brake dust on the front wheels.

Thanks Trans4ma, I will look into these... the price is pretty cheap.. esp. for both the front and the rears. How is the powerstop brand compare to oem brakes and brembo blanks?

Thanks,
-Leo

I can't speak as to the Brembo blanks, but these stop a lot better than the OEM brakes. Grip is good enough to jerk you forward a bit if you step too hard on the brake. The whole set costs less than having a shop do just the fronts alone.

If you are going to do this yourself, I highly suggest you get this:
OEM #27111 Disc Brake Tool Set (Amazon about $40- well worth the $)

The rear caliper piston needs to be rotated to recess back into the caliper. The $10 universal tool at the parts store is a waste of time.

I would only replace parts as needed, doing all that work is going to get expensive quick. Research any problem on this forum and will help you diagnose and determine when you need to buy Nissan parts or if the parts store part are fine. Their are a few parts like coils that the aftermarket parts don't work properly.

Braking vibration on the highway is usually rotors but you may find seized rear calipers.

If you don't know the condition of the car, take it in to a shop and get a full inspection. Sure it'll cost some, but you'll know what needs to be done and you won't be spending money on parts that are still good. Why replace it if it's not bad?

And for shaking/vibrations, get wheels balanced and maybe alignment checked.
