Selling I30 - should I fix the a/c

I am going to buying a new car soon, my car has 167k and some rust but otherwise relatively good shape. I will price it accordingly, probably in 2000 range. My I30's a/c clutch died last week but it makes noises when off from something rattle around in the clutch assembly so it sounds horrible, it makes a whirling noise if engage the a/c, but it doesnt spin the compressor.

Do I leave it? Do I throw in a used a/c compressor and hope its good and leave it uncharged. Do I try to charge it up? Do I just a buy new an compressor and fix it right? I don't know what is acceptable for 2000ish dollar car or what will prevent me from selling the car. It will cost me time about 400 to fix it right with aftermarket parts.

Spend $400 on a car worth $2000?

Math 101 - Are you willing to spend 20% of the cars value on a repair prior to selling it?

If you can get it repaired really cheap, go for it. But at $400 bucks, think about it...

If you were living in a state where temperatures are 100+ average during the summer then yes I would definitey recommend it because not many people are up to buying a car without functioning ac. Otherwise you should be ok not fixing it.

I only paid 1600 for mine with working AC, If you hope to get 2K, then yes. Repalce the AC clutch (if available) and ask for your top doolar.Without AC you might be lucky to get 1600.

yo u in mass!

If u tryin to get rid of it, then sell it for 2000 and dont fix anything. I u fix the a/c, put 3000 for the sticker price.

Im in worcester and i see 1996 saturn sedans and old cavaliers with $2999 sticker price. I wont even mention what hondas are going for down in boston. its craaaazy

Dont sell yourself short man. The used car game in mass is so inflated its not even funny. And PLENTY of those cars dont got working A/C

I totally agree, working a/c is a great selling point during the summer and typically people will either walk away or low ball you if its not working.
