dies in reverse

my friend has a 99 max and when he switches to reverse car stalls. he says it's very rare when it happens in drive. his is auto. i'm thinking it's his idle air control valve. no check engine lights , the mechanics he went to can't find anything. throwing money at it would be stupid without knowing what is broke. anyone had similar issues they were able to resolve. ? thanks for any advice

Crankshaft POS harness has a short. Inspect the red wire for breakage where they bent the wire and taped it up.

Clean the throttle body and IACV.
Verify the idle speed is set correctly.

I had a similar issue, on my 95. Would start right up and soon as i put it in reverse it would die and take a while to start bak up at times. I cleaned iac valve and throttle body and changed coolant temp sensor, and its been fine ever since.

Guys his iacv sensor has a Mitsubishi logo on it. Do we have a part that has that logo? To me doesn't sound right and that might be the priblem. What do you guys think

Many of our electronics are made by Mitsubishi. They are actually the better supplier.

Take a look at the rubber piece between the Maf and throttle body. Inspect it closely to see if it is cracked/broken somewhere.

I had the same issue once in my 98 auto, turned out to be the neutral switch.
