don't listen to these guys.

It's right behind the blinker fluid reservoir, next to the flux capacitor and behind the rear main quartz discombobulator switch

The chances that your timing is off is not likely with a timing chain

do you have the check engine light on? If so, check the codes and report back.

what was this "engine repair" you had? You've gotta be specific or else we can't help you. What was the repair and who did id? You? shop?

If a shop did it, and by "recently" you mean a month or less, take it back to the shop.

I took it to Auto Zone today and it gave a camshaft position sensor code . He did also mention to me the MAF.
I did change my Fuel Filter.
I also changed my knock senor when I replaced my sparkplugs.

Cam shaft sensor will cause hard starts and possibly hesitation/lack of power...MAF will cause hesitation and lack of power...Try cleaning it per the How To's (link in my sig). So the "engine work" you mentioned was only replacing plugs and knock sensor?? What kind of plugs did you use?

If this is the answer to me asking you what kind of plugs you have...thats not really gonna help. Your issues may stem from the type of pugs you have along with the MAF code you are saying you have. Dude, you gotta help us to help you here...unless you are not still asking for help??

And on nother note, If you are going to answer people, please click the "quote button" so we know which post you are referring to.

There is no distributor man. People are joking with you. You need to give more detailed info if you want help. You can not say I put some plugs and worked on my engine, now I have a problem, what is wrong? It could be man things. Unless there is more info I do not see how people can help you.

The plugs have nothing to do with it because it was giving me the problem before i changed them , I changed the plugs thinking it was the problem.
But my car has a slow acceleration now , and when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear it gives me a jerk , other than that it runs smoothly .
I took it to Auto Zone and it gave a cam shaft sensor code.
The guy at Auto Zone mention it could be MAF but I'm going to change the Cam shaft sensor before I think about the MAF because of the code .
Any Suggestions ??

Yup, like I said in post 16, Clean your MAF. Then take care of the cam sensor (like you said)...about a 30 second fix there. Reset your CEL and see what happens. FYI You can reset and check the codes yourself http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html

Ok, so plugs don't seem to be the issue then...but just so you know, our cars like NGK plugs ONLY.

Hmm you say you are new to mechanics (didn't even know that these cars have coils vs. Distrib.) but you are throwing down people's sugestions with the cause of the problem.

Keep in mind people on here have been doing this a lot longer than you especially with these cars. The plugs and coils are the result of many problems your car will have.

You say you put in a new knock sensor...sluggish can be due to a malfunctioning knock. New ones don't always work. Check for a ghost knock and then ohm out the knock itself (search you can find the how to). I just went throught this with a new knock and ended up doing the resistor mod to get me by until I can buy an OEM one. The OE I got and put in doesn't work.

Good luck, and P.S. you don't have cred to crack on here...cut it out and take advice.

Place a timing light on #1 Cylinder coilpack harness wire and shoot your crank pulley.......you should be able too see where it's at I'm sure unplugging the water temp sensor might stabilize the view....

Yes you would have to disable the timing advance, not sure how without the FSM here at work. You still wouldnt be able to adjust your spark timing anyway. The only "timing" that could be off would be valve timing and then you have 4 cams to worry about and only one has a sensor to affect ignition timing.

Yeah to prove that the valve timing is right on.... Would at least involve pulling the #1 coilpack/spark plug and placing the crank @ TDC and ensuring that the #1 piston is @ TDC as well if it's off then you're in trouble..... I would check MIL or a CEL and pull some codes....extreme weakness could be the Knock sensor!

Coil on plug
If you jump time more than likely your heads damge becuase timing chain broke.
I will say do research but in the sense that you familirize( i misspelled i know) yourself with what kind of ignition system you have and so on.
buy a chilton repair manual best 26.99 you will ever spend. Also your local library should have the boom if you want just copy what you need. Been in your shoes man sucks not knowing and getting punked for it.
