Odometer problem

So my 95 maxima odometer stopped working along with the trip... I tried banging on it and it moved for less than a mile and stopped. I took the instrument panel out and made sure all the connections are tight and tighten the little screws to make sure there is contact.

Every thing works except the odometer and trip, what could be the problem?

Can velocity speed Sensor VSS cause this?

VSS wont cause that IIRC...since your speedo is still working, I think you can rule out the VSS and pretty much narrow it down to you need a "new to you" cluster. You can find them on here pretty cheap. Your Check Engine Light is not on correct??? And It works, correct?? VSS will most likely throw a code.

If you don't feel like searching too much click >> Maxima_Joe and shoot him a PM. He is pretty much the 4th gen parts guru and will probably have something for you. You will need one for a 95-97 only...98 & 99 were different than yours.

I am not getting any codes... If I buy a used one how do I change it back to the original milage of the car?

Well, you can either live with the mileage and just make sure you note the mileage of the old one you take out, and the new one you put in...then whatever miles you put in the new one you would add to the old one to reflect your actual mileage. Or, the mileage can be rolled back on the 95-97 with no special tools. I did mine cause i replaced my speedo too. It is illegal to do though. If you want to know how to do it, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction. However, I will not give you a step by step since I don't want to be responsible should you do anything fraudulent. I figured out how to do mine by looking at the odometer and practicing on an old one.

I looked at mine cause i was wondering the same thing. I don't think you can but if you figure out how, I have an odometer that works...speedo does not work but odometer does. Probably more of a pain to change out the odometer when you can get a whole cluster for around $30 here if you find the right person. I actually found one for $10 with a broken tach, but then the speedo stopped working. Actually, that one I think the odometer May still work on too so i may have 2 working odometers if you need one.
