Jerky tach

My battery was dying so I replaced it with another one. The one I had before was 640CCA and the new one has 575CCA. I noticed after I had replaced the battery that the tach was acting strange when it was between 2000 and 3000 rpm. It would change sharply every time the transmission went out of O/D and wobble (rather sharply) around until the tranny was back in O/D. Everywhere else in the tach range it doesn't do that and seems to be indicating normal revs. I'm convinced that it isn't a coincidence that this happened just after I replaced my battery. Any help on the matter would be appreciated.

I'm also going to replace the new(er) battery. The one I have in there now is one that was sitting out in my shed on the battery maintainer and will be used only until I can get a new one. Also, any recommendations on a specific type of battery? Just wondering...

Thanks

p.s- here's a video of the tach
