i used the thread (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT Diagnosis (If "trouble" lights are on, read here first!) ) to see what type of codes i would be able to get.But for some reason i got codes 1401, 1402, and 1405. on the thread i wasn't able to find the codes and Ive tried Google yet haven't had any luck. any help would be appreciated

Did you get these codes by using a scanner or by using the "screw" method on the ECU??

What year is your car?

I assume these were CEL flash codes. Look up Pmohrs A32 cel decoder on google and it's self explanatory from there. Just FYI it's in his signature in the "I'm a noobie" thread

I tried those codes in pmohr's link yesterday and only the 1401 comes up as engine temp sensor iirc. The other ones are unfounded.

Edit: just saw that OP posted the year of his vehicle which makes p1401 and 1402 come up. I searched for a 97 before he posted his year and that's why it did not come up.

Code: P1401 | Description: EGR Temperature Sensor

Code: P1402 | Description: EGR System

clean your egr. if you take it for a shop they will bend you over, look for a local .org-er and they will cut you a deal, or look for the how to.

So the flashes you got on the check engine light should have been 0305 and 0514 correct?

I am just trying to make sure we are on the same page because you say you got codes 14xx via the screw method which does not make sense. At least that's how I am reading it.
