antenna

I drove my 97 maxima through the car wash with the antenna on. As a result the antenna is broke off. IS there anywhere on the internet that I could get a replacement antenna

I recently did the same thing... although I backed into my garage with the door not fully up. It was sad to see. In any case, more than likely, you can just replace the telescopic mast and not the whole unit. The mast is around $30 from the dealer I think but the whole unit is really expensive. I don't know what it includes but there are two wire harnesses attached to the motor unit. When I disconnect the larger one, the remote keyless entry no longer works! As I really just listen to mP3's in the car, I think I'm going to bag replacing the mast. In any case, I followed the instructions in Haynes and couldn't get the mast portion to come out. It almost seemed like Haynes was talking about a different unit as the bezel can not be taken out by a standard antennna bezel remover tool.

As long as the rope and motor are good, the dealer can install the mast for around $60 or so. That would be your best bet.

Yes and no Sudz. What I did was shaved mine and then added a Fuba antenna (45^ roof mounted VW/Audi antenna). But there was some downtime between the 'shave' and the Fuba. If you have the Bose package like I do, there is an antenna in the rear windhield. It's called a dual diversity antenna. The way it works stock is the radio will choose the better of the two receptions (mast antenna and windhield antenna). So when I had my mast antenna shaved , I could still hear the radio from the windshield antenna. And I actually didn't even sense a loss in reception either... for FM that is. AM almost completely disappeared. Not sure why. ?? Now with the Fuba, of course I get it all, AM/FM. And there are antennas you can buy that hide in the pillars too. Anyway, hope I answered your q.

I HAAAAAAAAAAAAATE things that are unnsymmetrical. I am a symmetrical nut! That's why the keyhole and exhaust had to go (now if I can just think of something for that pesky gas cap...) as well. I also hate "growths" and I also hate things that aren't body color. So for all those reasons, the antenna had to go. No matter the price.
Anyway, I'm not following you. Why would you paint it body color and disconnect the cable as opposed to painting it body color and leaving the cable attached?

Care to delineate a brief How2? I got the antenna bezel off. I turn the radio on and help it retract up. Now what? The mast doesn't just pull out does it?--cause mine doesn't.

Well see I got a little ****ed off when it happened and just ripped the thing out...So after I screwed the little chrome cap off and removed the nub that was left, I just had a buddy sitting in the car turn the radio on so that the motor started turning, feed the white plastic strip in with the teeth towards the front of the car(I think). It took a few trys to get it started, but once it took it I just screwed the cap back on, and I had a radio again..Sorry I couldn't be of more help...
