Removing Spark Plugs
Removing Spark Plugs
Hey,
I was changing my spark plugs the other day but had a problem with one. It is the one on the top right. I moved everything out of the way and had space to work with but had one problem. It seemed that my socket was not holding it good enough to get it out of the whole. I got all the others out but this one would not grip it enough or somethign so when I undid it and tried to pull it out , it was left behind in the shaft.
Does anyone have any particular tips for getting it out of there? Any suggestions?

I used a magnet to pull out the sparkplug. the magnet was attached to a moveable type wire. Something you could probably pick up at any autoshop. OR... you could make yoru own..
just a string with a magnet attached to it.

if not, then a handy magnet stick type thing could always be handy
weird but that's the spark plug which had alot of oil on it when i pulled mine out. All the others seemed fine.
Mutiplexor, that may not be a very good thing.

One guy mentionned that it might not be good to drive on it like that for months.... uhm off the top of anyones head... any idea how much that would cost to fix? I'm assuming i would have to replace the gasket and that's pretty much it, if i even tried to do it myself...
Oh, Thanks a bunch SuDZ for helping me find that thread. I did a search before, but never came accross it.

car has about 83,000 miles on it.
Thanks for your help guys. I just ran out on my lunch and changed those last stuck plugs. I ended up using one of those mechanical claw type thing I found at the hardware store up the street. I'm Glad I am no longer running on 4 plugs new and 2 old ones.

To make this job even easier...
I was in sears the other day browsing the tools, and I found the perfect tool for this. Its basically a telescoping pointer that you'd think of teachers using with a magnet on the end. I got the smallest one that they had, which they claim can hold up to 8 pounds or something like that. More than enough for a spark plug.
All this for only $2.99!
