99 Max FSTB RUST need help.

I installed my FSTB about a year ago. I hacked off the useless bracket that was in the way. Problem is that ruct is starting to form on the edges where I hacked. Any suggestions on how I can get rid or slow the rust. Also was there a reason for that bracket?

Try sanding the rust off and then just painting it with some touch-up paint. That should slow it down.

yeah - i agree - take it out, sand it, and maybe put a clear coat on it to prevent rust???

Paint it!

Paint it. Thats exactly what I did just after I cut it off. It's almost 8 months now. No rust at all. I used Nissan touch up and a drop of clear nail polish on it to finish it off.

I recommend sanding most the rust off then using a rust-converter like Loctite's Extend (if they still make it?) and then painting over it well. That should stop it.
