How do i put a new stereo in my car?

Ok i have a 96 maxima with the bose system and i want to replace my current stereo with one that has a aux cable for i can play music through my ipod, i was wondering do you guys have experience with this and can walk me through it, im interested in purchasing this product from bestbuy JVC 50W x 4 and im curious to know will it fit in my car and work? can you guys also tell me what other cords or fillers i will need to buy and can i do it myself because i dont want to shell out anymore money for bestbuy to install it when i could potentially do it myself, thanks

i would just go to crutchfield and find something similar if you cant find the same headunit. you will need a dash kit, and from my experience with CF in the past they usually send you everything you need to install each headunit. from there its just taking apart the center console and replacing the headunit using a couple screws. simple stuff.

Read up on the Bose stickies in the audio section, that should answer most if not all of your questions.

you need to read the how to on removing the center console because you cant just remove the woodgrain.

I replaced mine stock radio (non-bose) with a walmart head unit, you need to remove the console cover from central vent down to the shift, the radio itself is screwed on the metal frame you have to remove the cover to reach those screws. The cover is not difficult to remove, just use a flat head screw driver to pry open, be careful when you are doing this, do not use to much force or you will break the tabs. I have to alter the cover a little since the head unit is 1/4" wider so I just use a filer to carefull open the hole up. I don't know if you want to install a subwoofer or not, for that, you also need to run a feed line from head unit to where the woofer location (in trunk maby) and run a power line from battery through firewall back to the trunk.

I replaced the head unit in my Bose system also.
Ordered through Crutchfield - a new Clarion single DIN headunit and this

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142C4NN03/Nissan-Infiniti-Factory-Integration-Adapter.html?tp=3486

Item no. 142C4NN03 OEM intergation v.4 94-up Nissan/Infiniti
This is what makes the new headunit work with the amplified Bose speakers.

The only thing I would change is, I'd get a double DIN headunit. The pocket and trim piece they send you as part of the kit looks terrible.

we told you to look in the how to's for instructions on how to take apart the center console. no ones going to sit here and tell you blow by blow how to do it.

I replaced my stock non-bose unit with JVC's KD-A95BT and new speakers all around (rears were totally free floating!!!).

I love the iPhone integration, but I hate that with Bluetooth enabled, the phone takes about 30 seconds to sync up and when it does it switches off the cable. So, you have to either change the stereo's source to BT or pick up the phone, switch to Music and change it's "speaker source". Supposedly, this is not just a problem with JVC units, but I don't know for sure.

My primary reason for going with JVC is they fully support Audiobooks on the iPhone. None of the other brands do that.

Go with Crutchfield and you'll save money over BestBuy even if you don't get free shipping. They'll send you all the cables and mounting hardware you'll need and step by step illustrated instructions.

I'll bite cause I know that sometimes it's hard to find step by step info.

1. See where your defrost and hazard buttons are...that panel will pop out by inserting a flat head screw driver and popping it out.
2. When you get that out, you will see 2 screws just above the heater controls, unscrew them.
3. Your trim around your shifter will also just pop off. Remove that. You will see I think 2 or 3 more screws near the ash tray. Remove them and the ash tray will pop out (you may need to open the ashtray for it to pop out).
4. Once all the screws are out, the trim around the radio should come out and the radio will still be attached to the trim. There should be a few screws holding the radio to the trim which obviously you need to remove to get the radio out.

So basically, there are 2 pieces that simply pop off...the shifter trim and the trim with the hazard/defrost button which also houses the vents. Everything else is held in by screws. Just make sure you get all the screws. I think there may be a total of 5 or 6 screws TOTAL.

All this info is off the top of my head and may not be exact but should get you started, Good luck.
