need car opinion

Need another car for back and forth to work and such.I have most of my 98se left for parts aol that affects the decision

Car 1. 1990 civic hatch. 4mt. Faded paint but no rust. Comes with spare set of wheels and tires and a sub and amp. Needs a.c. and heater hooked up and fixed. 900obo

Car2. 1997 maxima. Gle or gxe. The loaded one. Can't remember. Leather cracked like mine. Body straight. Paint messed up on bumper and hood looks a little off color. Need just a maf. Wants 1500. Talked down to 1000 firm.

Spare parts make the max a better choice as well as the a.c. and heat working.

Civic gets around 40mpg or maybe more and comes with some useable or sellable items that sweeten the deal and it's cheaper to start with anyway.

Need unbiased opinions. I own 2 maximas so I know the perks and faults. Just looking for opinions on it versus the civic for my needs.

Simply for the mileage, if you're driving to/from work, get the civic.

making the heat / AC work may cost a little bit though...but with the difference in gas mileage (50% better) with the civic, you'll save about 10-20 bucks each time you gas up. PLUS, the civic will take cheap stuff (and run well on it), while the max would want premium

I'm leaning civic but he max would be more comfy and already has a.c. and heat. And 70hp vs 190.... I'm looking at jobs out of town also so the civic would be exponentially better then. Unless the motor pops.

222k maxima. Not sure of civic right now.

Budget is 1000 if stretched thin. Really wanna see if civic man will take 650 and I'd be happy. He doesn't wanna move much from 900 though.

That's because the civic is easily worth 900. Just get the civic. You sound like you just want us to talk you out of buying the civic.

I was expecting more votes towards the maxima. I think the civic is the better choice if I rule out all the spare parts I have for the maxima.

The ac/heat fix on the honda might be a cheaper fix than the MAF. But the Max is also 7 years newer. I would go with the civic myself.

Have a working spare maf already. But yeah. Gonna go look Friday. If he bites at 700 I'm taking it. The price difference should fix the hvac. And I'll have a system and spare wheels/tires to use or sell.

You could tune it and make a quick sleeper that gets really decent mileage. No rice though.

civic. you're getting an economy car so do it right!

i know the civic is great, even maybe the best in every way for an economy car but if i were you and had a little bit more to spend i'd get a golf or jetta diesel! not only great mileage but booooost! i have a friend who diesel swapped a vw cabrio and put 18psi on the stock turbo (up from 14) and tuned the injection pump. its still slow but a bit more torquey and that turbo spool, hiss and pssshht are sooo addictive to hear!

Better hope the civic has an alarm. Or else get ready to buy one or else that civic will walk away. 98% of civics here in phx, have been stolen at least once.
