How loud am I looking at here?

I need to pass inspection and I noticed my stock muffler has gotten louder, I had some rust in it and I know I won't pass.

So I had left over, a 2.5Inch, burn tip, fart can that has a 2.5 inch pipe, just like the rest of my exhaust. (The tip is 4 inch)

Also, I have no resonator.

Worst comes to worst is that it is too annoying and I buy a nicer Axle back.

But yeah, I was just wondering how it would sound, and how loud.

Thanks.

Do you have a aftermarket y pipe? Do you have a cat? I had just a full 2.5 inch catback with resonator and fart can with stock y and cat. It sounded really nice and deep. A little louder than i liked so i had the fart can swapped out for a turbo muffler. It was tolerable but still too loud for my taste. As long as you have a stock y and cat i think it will be loud but tolerable. If you have no cats on the car it will be obnoxious.

Yeah man, it's all stock except for the resonator. And while I usually tell people that I have no resonator, come to think of it, I have a cherry bomb in place of it. So I think I will be looking at a nicer tone and not a straight through.

I went to the muffler shop to have it put on, because the kid who tried to do it for me messed it up and the couplings broke, so yea...I drove to the muffler shop with ONLY a cat and the piping opened up after that so it was right under that cab and it was deafening.

Thanks man! I appreciate the fast response.

Oh and although my car is no maserati, I've noticed maxima's are blessed with an incredibly throaty tone for a tuner car.

I saw this video online of a maserati

Would a max literally need to be straight piped to get that? Or like straight piped and cammed?

Throw on a y pipe which deletes the pre cats and put on a test pipe and you will be LOUD. Ive ran several honda's straight piped and they were really loud. Back then thats what i wanted haha. I've matured some and am no longer into making a ruckus. Which is also why I drive a Maxima haha.

Why wouldn't you pass? Do they measure how loud your exhaust is with a decibel meter where you are?

Speaking for Myself and Wv if your car has a rust hole it wont pass. I asked what the deal is and I was told its because someone could cut them selves on it. Its a joke basically. Most inspections are. I understand emissions its to save the environment but a rust hole... come on.

Last year I still had rust in it and I brought an exhaust to be bolted on. He said "Listen, it's a real pain in the *** to get this thing on, so as long as I pass you, make sure to get this muffler on at another shop ASAP."

It's been a year because I really didn't want to put any money into my car, but if I go back to the same place with the same muffler, I won't be passed.

And sorry for the Double post, but what gives a car that Ricey sound, like a bee's nest?

Some I see with the same exhaust that I'm putting on sounds so deep and low, but then I see others that sound like shat!.

if you rock a close to stock catback, and cat, but a nice cattman ypipe, you can get that nice deep sound with a stock look.

Unless they test how loud your exhaust is then you will pass regardless if you have a muffler on at all.

Apologize for thread jacking in advance but I also have a question regarding this subject. Going to be putting on Cattman cat-back with fast cat. Now my options at this point I guess are Obx V2, Obx shorts w/Warpspeed Y(or budget), maybe Stillen if I can locate. I am sure all these combos have been tried so any advice/descriptions on sound output would be greatly appreciated.
