When has your starter crapped out on you

Whats up guys. My autozone starter fizzed bye bye for the second time this morning.

The first time I was with my girl and it refused to start. Had to get a push from some of my friend/ -.- not fun.

Today I had to change the car for street cleaning and it wouldn't start and I had to have my dad help me get it push started.

Post any embarrassing stories about your starters crappin out.

DAMN DURALAST -.-

Changed mine last week... And exactly 6 months before that... I've learned to say, right before i get in the car with a new person, "let's c if it'll start this time.." It's funny if it starts, they're mentally prepared for if it doesn't lol..

ive had issues with my starter for a while with it either having a bad spot on it, or not having enough teeth on it. soon as i turn the key, screech!!! may do it 2 times until it finally starts, very embarrasing!!. i went to get an oil change one day, i was next in line, the guy went to pull my car in and it would not start. i hit it with the hammer, and got nothing, luckily i had a spare starter in the trunk and i installed that one until i can get a new or junkyard one. by the time i got done installing the starter the shop was about to close, oh well at least i didnt get stranded.

god damn I bought my maxima with that many miles, and Im on my 3rd one. the maxima gods are pleased with you.

On another note, I was changing my starter in the rain today, and The one 15mm bolt that holds the starter to the bellhousing wouldn't go in more than half the way in. Is this okay ?

In the three or four years I've had my max, it has never stopped working. I did regrease the starter once, just as a precautionary measure. I have over 280K miles and AFAIK its still original.

My OE starter lasted 14 years with 142,000 miles. I threw in a new rebuilt autozone starter 16 months ago and it's been fine. With the 2 AWG GND wire added to it's mounting bolt and the 4 month old 24F battery she starts quicker now than when brand new. With it's lifetime warranty I got another remanufactured starter from them by giving them a JY starter I got for $15

Original starter went out in April, 2008 at 109K miles. Replaced with Autozone rebuilt, still going strong at 160K miles.

This.... I've been buying O'Reilly parts lately now because of their lifetime warranty and great prices.

What appeared to be the original starter on the car lasted 10 years. When it went out I replaced it with a Napa reman with a 1 year warranty, and it took a **** 2 months out of warranty... It now has the O'Reilly lifetime starter on it, along with an alternator, too.

I took my wife on a weekend trip to Chicago last January with a starter that was on it's way out. I don't have a garage and since it's winter in IL, I was putting the simple job off until I could catch a break in the weather. She struggled to start in the parking lot of the museum of science and industry and I got some weird looks. We made it home and the temp dropped to about 0, then it crapped out. Had to call work and tell them I was going to be a few minutes late. It's almost surprising how fast you can get a starter done when you're freezing your *** off.

+1 on OReilly. The one nearby always has maxima parts in stock as well whereas the other ones will have to order them. My original starter went out about 6 months ago. Thing was bullet proof. First "rebuilt" starter I got didnt work. Bench tested in the store fine but once on the car it didnt engage so I went and got a new one from O'Reily and it has been fine since.

As far as embarassing stories, It always happens to me at school and I have to get some kid in a new car to come over and jump me. Feel bad for Maxine because its not her fault I dont want to pay for a Nissan Starter

Mine was acting up for about 7 years, but only in winter/cold weather. Sometimes it wouldn't retract properly and make a grinding sound. I finally ordered one from rock auto this year, AC Delco new for $112, no core, not a bad deal. I got my car inspected and they said my battery wasn't passing a load test, but it was hot, maybe 101 F, so they said not absolutely necessary but get it checked out sometime before winter.

I take it to Sears under warranty, they replace it, so I figure I'm good to go and got lazy about installing the new starter I had bought.

My wife didn't mention that when she took the Maxima is was really hard to start. Then I take it to work, and it almost didn't start, but it did. At a stoplight, I decide to shut it off and restart it, to see what would happen. Bad idea, it was dead. On a busy commuter two-lane avenue. It was amazing how many people cursed at me and honked, but did not offer to help. It is 2012, I suppose car trouble is a thing of the past....uncle came by in a CR-V and push started it, and also pushed in the CR-V's bumper!

15yrs and about 175k on the I30. Quite pleased given that this was virtually all city mileage

You guys are getting some good lifespans with your starters, Cant say im having the same luck.My car refused to start again today so I had to get an another from from VatoZone. In less than one week-.- It even bench tested bad.

Changed it out pretty quick though. You'll be surprised how fast you can work when its freezing outside. Although working on my car has introduced me to some cool gear heads in my neighborhood.
