Do not use exedy t.o. Bearing!!!

Exedy still has not gotten the hint and is using crap bearings. I just got my DXD clutch kit for my '96 (they use reworked exedy components) and unless I am mistaken and DXD is using their own throwout bearing which I doubt, it is garbage.

I bought the OEM bearing hoping to return it when I found the Exedy to be of equivalent quality.

The bearings look completely identical, however, the Exedy bearing has no identifying marks whatsoever and has a spin that is noticeably grainy even by hand. The OEM bearing is very smooth and spins exactly how you'd expect a bearing to feel. It is made by the well known Japanese bearing manufacturer NTN and is clearly identified.

I'd just thought I'd share this experience so those who are considering using the Exedy bearing think twice and purchase the OEM bearing and compare before installing. I DO NOT want to take the tranny off again and I would be surprised if the bearing that came with the kit even lasted a few months.

I have the TOB that came with my DXD clutch sitting in front of me. It doesn't feel grainy per say, but it will only spin about 1/4 turn before stopping again when spun freely.

How much did you pay for your OEM release bearing?

I never had a problem with the Exedy TO bearing when I used the Exedy Stage 1 setup.
Havent heard others complain about them either.

Some OEM clutch parts from Nissan are made by Exedy, go figure

had the same issue with the Exedy OE replacement. switched to stage 1 and never had a problem again.

Exactly! I held the part that presses against the pressure plate and spun the housing and it spun a half a turn.

I spun the OEM one and I got two, maybe 3 full revolutions.

I believe I paid $55-60 for it. Well worth not having to take my transmission off even within the next 2 years.

You should at least purchase the OEM one, and if you still decide to use the Exedy one, you can just return it. I firmly believe if you feel them side by side you will see the noticeable difference in quality.

Mine didn't feel grainy. When I compared it with my oem one they looked and spun almost exactly the same. Did your bearing go bad, or how do you know for sure you have a bad bearing? Bad TO bearings rattle or cause the pedal to vibrate when you use the clutch. If there is noise when in idle but it goes away when you press in the clutch then that is the known 4th gen tranny main bearing problem.

I am not going to even install it. I can actually feel rough spots in the bearing when I spin it by hand. Almost like it wasn't greased properly or tolerances are incorrect. Sounds like crunchy, contaminated grease. Maybe I just got a defective bearing. When I can feel major differences between the 2 by hand, there is no way I am going to chance it at 6000rpm
